It seems like someone has been busy. a couple weeks ago i ran into a Bootleg copy of Academy on DVD with the entire Substance Video collection tacked onto the end. the first copy was priced 23bucks so i had to pass. This weekend in Portland, i ran into another copy with the same graphics etc. only this one was reasonable priced at 13.99. busted out the laptop to check the dvd quality and it's pretty good considering it's a VHS transfer. Good job seperating the tracks into different chapters too. The menu's are genereic template menu's but i can now watch Academy on DVD!!! excellent performance that was too.

My question: Has anyone else noticed this bootleg in your local shop? It's a black and white photocopy with Bernard singing on the front and Hooky on the back with the tracklistings for Academy and Substance? It seems like it's being distributed with some frequency.

on a related note: our very own Oregon Hero (Allan "GREEN" Roepke) has come through big time with the long delayed trade package. No labels but i can tell the 85 Oakland show (ask Allen about his trip to see them that night!) was spectacular. Decent sound quality and a great set. I was cracking up when Hooky starts the then unreleased AS IT IS WHEN IT WAS while the synth line from PROCESSION starts. Hooky calls out his bandmates saying "Bastards are always trying to trick me" or something to that effect. Thanks a bunch for sending these Allan, now, what did i say i would send you? Paris 82, Full Peel Show?, and what else?

Thanks for the news Brian, just been a bit embarrassed as it's been 3 weeks since we last communicated :o . Something always stupid came up, and I decided to send it w/out an e-mail, just for the suprise, cause you deserved it :thumb:  Yeah, the one disc in the paper sleeve is the Oakland gig, the other two is the MOVE show. No labels on mine either, but I'll eventually get something done for mine :)

I definitely remember thinking that with the lackluster audience, the encores were very much a surprise, but I was very appreciative of the effort NO put out that night (Sunrise, The Village, As It Is, 586, Age Of Consent, Ceremony, etc...); never understood what was in the minds of everyone else, but I went nuts. *sigh*

So you were in Portland Saturday eh? I was baking in the 100 degree heat in Eugene (gotta say I have a really nice tan now). Haven't been shopping up there for quite awhile, last time was on the way back down from Seattle in July, so send me an e-mail about where you spotted those boots at if you would be so kind, think I'll take a drive on Saturday.

First we talked about Paris 82, and hadn't agree to anything else, but Roskilde sounds good to me.

Thanks must go to Solitude (Peter) for trading the Oakland show with me, so that I can now share it with you. Thank you sir!!!!

:)

Is Academy worth getting? How does it measure up compared to PFD or Taras?

Academy is spectacular. Excellent performance all the way through except Bernard butchering the guitar bit in Age of Consent. I think this show is a must have. Better in my opinion than both 3 16 and 5 11. The sound quality is perfect and with Bizarre Love Triangle (album mix), The Perfect Kiss, Ceremony, Age of Consent, Temptation, Dreams Never End etc...you can't go wrong. I highly recommend this Bootleg to anyone who doesnt' have these or who wants them on DVD. I'd rate the video quality of Academy at A-, Sound on Academy at A, Substance Video Quality A and Sound A+. My only complaint is the template Menu but i know this is due to the program used to author the DVD

it's available at one store here in Seattle for 23bucks. if someone wants, i can pick it up and mail it to them. of course, i'd need to be reimbursed for the funds but it's one way of getting it. check with a local shop that carries bootlegs. this DVD may be on their order list.

Thanks for the tip Brian, there was still a copy at the Ozone across from Powell's; this is indeed a great thing for us on this side of the pond to have, apart from the spelling errors on the back (Acdademy and Triange  ).

the Substance collection is tacked onto the Academy video so you get two for the price of one (if your lucky). It seems it's different prices in different locations but expect to pay 20-30 USD.

Ricardo, i've emailed you back but the message got bounced back. I'm pretty sure one of these places will have the DVD and be able to ship it to you. The Oregon Stores are cheaper.

Jive Time - Seattle - (206) 632 - 5483 Ozone UK - Portland, Oregon - (503) 227 - 1981 Ozone - Portland, Oregon - (503) 227 - 1975

i hope that helps anyone looking for this worthy DVD. Jive Time also has the 81/82 EP and the Temptation 12", not to mention the Durutti Column and the Wake Factory 12"s.
