Wow that was great! When was this played and did anyone transcribe the lyrics to this? was this the May 14, 1984 gig in London? Reminded me of the Bradford rendition of Face Up which makes a nice coincidence since both songs were still not fully erect err completed and released.
My wife thinks that Bernard has a penis issue with as many references he has made to the male appendage.:p
Indeed, Royal Festival Hall 14 May 1984. First time it was played live. Face Up also got it's first airing that night. Infact, top gig all round. The infamous EGG / Temptation segue and Decades as an encore. Ahh, those were the days...

Bernard's introductions mean next to nothing. He's been introducing the Perfecto Mix of True Faith as "New Version" nearly 10 years after the mix first appeared. To say NewVersion for a song that was released in 94 in concert in 01/02 is laughable.

In Australia and USA dates in 2001 he said the same thing but they played the same song in the previous day

One of the very, very best - seems like quite a few of us were there. Perhaps we can have a 20th anniversary piss up next May. But why was the EGG / temptation segue infamous? I though it was rather good, the few times they did it. Those indeed really were the days...

That was what I was trying to say, maybe infamous wasn't the right choice of word. It was a pretty cool thing they only did for a short time. If you were particularly lucky, you got 586 thrown in as well.

Known Pleasures was close.They did infact play Face Up 4 times prior to the RFH (Agree with the gig..it was damn good). 3 times in Germany (twice in Berlin, once in Dusseldorf) and then again in Bradford.
Was a special gig not just for New Order but also other artists on that evening. Also because it was a benefit for the Miners in their dispute with Thatcher.
New Order played a fantastic set and we were astonished when after anouncing that the next song is called 'I've Got A Cock..........', Barney actually started singing those words in the song, I remember a guy near me look at me and shake his head in amazement or embarrasment.
It has been said that this attempt at Decades was just a warm up for the next gig at the Paradiso, Amsterdam. A far superior version IMO
Just listened to the mp3, I love those early, work-in-progress prototypes that NO sometmes played. Listen to the next couple of performances at Leicester Palais and then Birmingham Powerhouse (where Barney and the DJ nearly got into a punch-up) to see how TPK moved forwards in only 2 or 3 weeks, losing the M1 lyrics was just the first move. :D
Al Jarvis for one is probably fed up to the back teeth with me banging on about this, but this was my first ever NO gig and very few have been better. Great support as well from Life - a crime they only released two singles.

He was closer than close. He was right. The gig listings are wrong, there weren't two Berlin shows. "Sonntage" was a bootleg album that contained some tracks from the Metropole gig and some from the Frankfurt gig.

He introduces As It Is as a debut on three consecutive gigs in 1985 !! Definitely had something to with consumption prior to/during the gig, though wouldn't wish to speculate as to the nature of the product being consumed !

You're talking about someone who uses an autocue for the lyrics to songs he's written. I've seen - live.
If I remember correctly John Lydon said that he could not believe how much drugs New Order took (Apologies for the bad grammar there). I can't remember the exact inteview but I think it was during the 'Alternative Monsters of Rock tour'...
ps went to that 23-5-85 show where they played 'love juice' - sorry none the wiser about that song, even though I do have a track listing (on toilet tissue paper - that hard industrial stuff - hmm ebay?) from the stage for that night (found it the other day) calls 'your silent face' - K.W.1. and calls 'as it is when...' - 'new one'
Barney was really rude to the audience that night - It was the first time I saw them - remember apologising to my friends for him. They played blue monday as the second song and I got the distinct impression that they just wanted to just get it out of the way. I remember too many songs I didn't know.
Temptation followed and then a bunch (it seemed) of songs from low life that I didn't know. denial (written as 'little dead' on the track listing) came and was just awesome. The keyboard bit was gut shaking.
I know they played subculture, sunrise and the perfect kiss (I have a tape of this show - but not to hand)
For the encore Hooky came on and said that the others "don't give a f*** about New Zealand but I do, my mother was born here" and then tore into 'age of consent' which was followed by 'Love juice'.
Well I didn't start this out intending to talk about this show, but it was my first New Order live experience so I hope everyone forgives the indulgence...
That Logan Campbell Centre gig was, for many years, one of the best recordings. People keep on about "Love Juice". It was just a live jam that didn't have a title and would never be played again - Barney was making the lyrics up as they went along. It would probably have ended up as another Sister Ray-type jam had Hooky not been playing a different bassline. On a number of occasions over the years they have done something similar to this, though usually in soundchecks. It's interesting that As It Was was listed as "new one" as Barney had introduced it by name on at least 4 occasions by that stage !

I seem to remember bootlegs I had at the time called it 'Things We Do' and I wasn't aware of the AIIWIW title until the Whistle Test show. I must've been listening to the wrong bootlegs!

I picked up a tape of the April '85 Salford University gig a few weeks after it had happened which named it 'As It Is When It Was' - presumably the bootlegger had got hold of a set list? And Barney introduced it as such at ULU in October '85 (tho' he also said it was a 'brand new song!').

So the support band was Life 
, I remembered John Cooper Clarke, but I could never remember who the band were. Now I know why!
