"I DON'T CARE" .... Mystery Requires Solving.

If anybody can enlighten me further on this query, I will be most grateful. Back in 1986/7 New Order's US Label at the time QWEST issued a curious double-header 12" Maxi-Single featuring "Bizarre Love Triangle" (Shep Pettibone remix - same as the UK single version) backed with "State Of The Nation" (12" original UK version) plus maybe two other alternate versions of these songs. However, the sleeve was the one used for UK's version of "BLT" - a slightly orangier wash of colour than the UK "SOTN" 12", and due to the lack of any sleeve information, a label was stuck to this cover: listing the tracks. Now this is where the oddity surfaces. One of the tracks clearly listed has the title "I DON'T CARE" - which, if it existed, must be the only New Order song I've never heard - or come across in any other format. This 12" was also available as an expensive import in Britain at the time - I even saw a copy or two at several record fairs I went to around the same time. Now, can anybody here verify this title as I'm positive I saw this on the sleeve of this 12". When I went to the States for a holiday in late1987 I searched in vain for this 12" but it seemed the stores were either out of stock or may have only had it available as a limited edition.

What I'd like to know is....does anybody have a copy of said 12" maxi-single, or acquired one? And if so, just what is this track? Is it an instrumental? Or a red herring? I'm intrigued to know. Surely, there must be some devout collectors out there who may well have snapped up every bean and fart the band have ever emitted. Any answers??

It's actually Bizarre Dub Triangle...

Just have a different name on the US release God knows why!

Thanks Martin for the question about I Don't Care. Hadn't listened to the 12" in question for some time, so I had to dig it out, for I'd forgotten about the title. At least if I see an MP3 of that song I'll remember now that I have it.

The legend is telling that when it came to make the sleeve, the guy didn't know what the DUB version was and just wrote "I don't care", because he didn't.

That would be one interesting question to ask to the band!

HA HA HA!! That's pretty plausible too! Actually it doesn't sound so surprising - considering it's happened before even then: the US cassette version of Power Corruption and Lies (FactUS 12) listed "Your Silent Face" as the working title of "KWi" ("Kraftwerk One" due to it being influenced by "Europe Endless" from the Teutonic Titans' "Trans-Europe Express" LP) and "Ecstasy" titled "Only The Lonely".

Thanks for setting me straight, guys! :)
