What in the flip was his flippin' problem? I thought him to be downright nasty. What a piece of shite!!! :nono:

yeah there was no reasoning in his argument really. the experience seems familiar as when i first bought permanent i thought it was fucking horrific, but then i gave it time and it became a favourite. who knows if id be caught in the wrong mood that day i may not be here

Sounds like this guy has issues...I mean, it's pretty much common sense that Nsync does not provide a good lead-in to listening to Joy Division :p

This is why I like Joy Division, twats like this guy hate them

Maybe if he tops himself he'll be able to get a refund from IC

I don't think this guy has any idea what JD were about.

ive had people respond like this in school when i copied jd cd's for them, i guess the music isnt that approachable to people who havent listened to it before.

is it possible to seperate the bands music from their history?

I do not understand ppl who can dislike JD; when I first listened to Interzone and Isolation I was hooked, I mean the music is brilliant, maybe I can understand ppl disliking Ian Curtis' low depressing voice, but the instrumentation hsould hook anyone in.

Hooky's bass is bleak, Ian's lyrics are bleak; they can be depressing, but hardly bleak. If people view them as bleak then they must have f-ed up hearing, for JD is not bleak, Sigur Ros is bleak :D

you have a point but arent hooky's bass and ian's lyrics a pretty prominent part in the mix along with steve's drums which could also be argued to be bleak?

Why should we care about what this guy has to say about Joy Division?

Steve's drums are not bleak in LWTUA, nor is it bleak in Interzone, nor in 24 Hours, and other songs. The people listening to the music must need more bass in their speakers, since when the bass of my mp3 player is up all the way, and when I raise the volume to even be able to listen to Ian's voice, the drums seem to be fierce in many parts of the songs, but sometimes they do drop off at points in the songs, but they usually roar back in another part of a song. I know that when I tried using my laptop to listen to JD tracks I could not hear the instruments very well considering the low bass of my speakers

to be honest its one of the first pieces of negative writing about joy division ive read on the net, i guess its interesting to see both sides, why people like them and why people dont, although this particular guy doesnt do a very good job of it

Originally posted by One Brain Why should we care about what this guy has to say about Joy Division?

We should not care so much, but it does irk some of us fans, when ppl have no taste in music, so we let off a little steam in this thread, but we really should not care so much. The guy's incompetent, and that's it

everyone has a taste in music its just some people (like this character) dont show any respect towards other peoples, which is wrong i guess

edit : aheemmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, if you look to the left you may notice something which may contradict the above point, i was using it merely as an example to support it. the text on the picture in no way represents the viewpoint of this posts author :love2:

Do you respect people who like the Cure?

not at all thats because im a dirty hypocrite (although im writing to parliament to try to get that title overturned since bob should be declared a Class A Shithead)

the cure should be the exception

 I agree with you, but I do have to admit I like 'A Night Like This", "Friday I'm in Love", "Lullaby" and "Just Like Heaven". Other than those four songs, every song is either mediocre, or plain awful

yeah, i do actually like the band its just robert i cant stand, i really really really dislike his voice, its like hes contantly going to be sick into the microphone, i like the seventeen seconds album and a couple other ones although as you said medocrity is commonplace in the cure catalogue

I like the band, but I hate their look; what's the f***ing point? I mean it takes work to get someone's hair that messed up

the cure is very rad. only problem i see is, they have such a huge music catalogue they are bound to have a couple dud albums.

but for the most part they are genius band--robert smith's get-up isn't nearly as atrocious as what the guys from 'japan' wore. and i love that band despite their glam influences.

is that really an issue?

I reckon our JD hating friend should take all his dance tracks, all his dopey indie punk crap and generally everything he owns that isn't R+B or New Metal, and burn it. After all we all know who are the most influential Brit band since the Romans taught us to count to four. What a pleb.

is that really an issue? I like to hear some Cure songs on the radio, but whenever I see a picture of them I shudder; imagine if Barney would be such a fat freak; he may be fat, but he's not a freak yet.

This is evolving into another Cure thread, isn' t it ?

Back to the topic, I allways enjoy not sharing my musical taste with idiots.

That's cheered me up no end, not sure it was meant to be comical but still.

I totally agree. When I first heard Joy Division (other than LWTUA), I thought they were a bit light weight, BUT the songs grew on me. I am a NO fan first, and the knowledge that Barney was in JD helped me appreciate them more. :D

I am a music fan, first and foremost. I am the one who will buy a CD based on the strength of one song, and later find out the rest of the album is crap. Do I demand a refund for those crappy CD's? Frickin' heck no!

That guy from the post was just acting out trying to get a reaction from others and he succeeded. Sad fool... Just get on with the CD and shut the frick up! Well, that post originated in 2002 didn't it? And he talked about it a couple of months ago? See, typical twat stirring the pot! Ask him now what he thinks. I bet he likes it. :D

I agree with the whole point about the Cure's look, especially Bob's. What looks "cool" when you're 20 is just pathetic when you're 40 :evil4:

As for the whole "hatin' on JD", I can understand someone not liking their stuff, but I've never heard of such an exaggerated reaction as this guy obviously had. Maybe he was just pissed about the money, because he really needed that $12 for Avril Lavinfjsadfhfghadjaskddfkfgusdfuf tickets or something :D

What's great about that rant is its totally generic. Apart from the reference to the yellow sleeve it could be reused to slag off any band anywhere.

I've always found that the people who like Joy Division tend to be those who are less shallow, of generally higher than average intellect and are willing to experiment in all sorts of ways - musically or otherwise.

I suppose I've been lucky.

you do not need to inflate his ego; c'mon the guy is a NO in the boondocks of SC, he's not God :D

they are inferior worthless wannabee stupid neo-new wave dumb-ass watered down tone-deaf soulless shitheads.

this guy has no-idea what the fuck he is talking about. i always thought Joy Division was the reason so many bands became new wave during the early 80's. watered down? i dont get that at all.

he said lots of dumb shit but at the very least he should be happy he got his wish... joy division ended in 1980. he talks as if they are stil around and recording.

anyways, if he is an artist, he should be more objective and open-minded. the guy is an idiot.

You didnt get down to the Willows on a regular basis did you? Glorious times but very little glory as those rough tough types from South Yorkshire mining towns always seemed to curse us.
