Hello, everyone, it's nice to be here...

I used to be "Mr disco" on the old Ceremony email list but I dropped out of it some 4 or 5 years ago. Seeing as there's already a "Mr Disco" in the fan club (cheers mate!) I settled on the slightly more ethnic version of the name.

As a result of my absence, I've fallen behind a bit. Forgive me if this is common knowledge.

I'd like to know...

  1. Where's Gillian? I know she's home taking care of their daughter, but has she formally dropped out of the band? How big a part did she play in making the album?

  2. Now that Rob is gone, are the band managing themselves?

  3. I'm a bit surprised to see their work coming out on Reprise in the states. What's the latest on their relationship with Quincy?

  1. Gillian has worked on the album but not as much as she would have wanted to. And she definitely didn't leave the band. She just doesn't play with the guys for the time being.

  2. I think there's 3 persons doing Rob's work, now...

  3. Don't know about that one.

Probably because the band have been away for so long doing their own projects, the QWEST contract probably seceded after the release of the US version of (The Best Of) New Order. But then, having said that, Quincy Jones's QWEST label WAS a Warners-distributed subsidiary after all, so maybe the name may have just simply got swallowed up in the whole Warners/Reprise conglomerate. I mean, record companies - they're always merging with each other these days. It's hard to keep track frankly. This label taking over that one and so on. London Records used to be an independent company before being Polygram-owned before Warner Music bought the whole lot up....Infuriating and confusing isn't it??

What I heard from Reprise is that Qwest was dropped from Warner and this is why New Order are now on Reprise in the US.

Did Gillian have any involvement with this album? I know she is credited on the album but I have heard reports on the radio that she had no involvement what so ever. Can anyone confirm?

Isn't that her singing backup on "Someone Like You" ???

Hey Senor Disco,

Where have you been? I remember you as a frequent poster years ago on the ceremony site... Then here there was a Mr. Disco whom I assumed was you until i realized that this new Mr. Disco was in the UK, and as I recall, you are in the southern US somewhere, right?

How can you be so behind on New Order news? Where you institutionalized or something?? ;) Just curious...

That's what I thought but the radio station I listen too said she had no part in the album because she was looking after her baby.

Dont't believe it, Ahmed - there's definately Gillian on the album, the DJ you heard either has the wrong info is just lazy. The official line is she's just not touring with them at the moment, but no-one really knows when she'll rejoin them as a touring memeber. It would be great to see her here for the BDO.. CTD

Yeah, I think your right. It was actually Richard Kingsmill on JJJ who said it. It was after he played the interview with Peter Hook on the 2001 show last night.

Yes, you've got the right guy this time. :)

Institutionalized? Close -- I was married.

Gillian did collaborate in all parts of the album, she didn't do promotional work because of her daughter, but she did write and play music for the album...

But she definitely didn't do any backing vocals at all on the album, that's for sure.

If she didn't, I wonder why there isn't anyone credited for them on Someone Like You...

Technically, if there is no credit, it's the band that did it.. and she's the only female.

I'm sure it's her! Guess it would make my question list.

And what makes you so sure of that?

I RECOGNIZE her voice... IT IS HER !!!!!!!

If you don't trust that, then make it an official question to New Order in the thread -- might be a good one to ask Stephen!
