Personally I think it lets the song down a little, would be good to hear your opinions on this one

You could say that about any New Order track, but if you really thought that about New Order, I don't think you'd have liked them in the first place!
I like it as it is, because it's New Order as I know them.

yeah i see what you mean
i was comparing it with tracks like all the way were the vocal line really works with the other tracks
if you think he butchers it on Low Life, you should hear some live versions. Bernard is absolutely fucking terrible on 75% of the live shows i have. Way off key, shitty guitar work, forgotten/messed up lyrics...truly pathetic. Proof that the DRUGS DON'T WORK.
However, i absolutely love Sunrise on LowLife and think it's perfect the way it is.
nah i think barney utterly fucks it up im afraid, low life or not. sunrise builds to a big earthy thumping track then along comes barney,or as rumour has it a six year old girl actualy sang on the track and they slowed it down to sound like barney. now i know he aint the best of vocalists ect but i think this one should have been given to hooky to sing.
I like Barney's voice on the Low-Life track, and I cannot imagine the track any other way. So it is already perfect.

Right gloves off time
To me the song is a classic just the way it is and the version on the Whistle Test 3/12/85 is a joy to behold....and that one's LIVE Bri;)

i've actually heard some good live versions, that's why i didn't go any higher than the 75% fuck up rate. EVEN A BLIND SQUIRREL FINDS A NUT!!!!
My first reaction on reading this poll was "whoa - how can you ask that??" Sunrise is one of my favourite neworder songs and I dig the theme behind the lyrics (as I interpret them of course ;))
However, i do like instrumental mixes of Neworder's songs and must admit that Sunrise would make a great instrumental track too.
However, it is what it is and I love it for that.

It's supposed to be like that, it's because Barney gets emotional singing it, it appears to be one of his rare songs that's actually about something. Love the live versions, IMHO they're even better than the original, remember PFD where he kicks Steve's drums ? BTW, I do have the instrumental.
thats actually a good point Julijana, never considered that before, jordan mentioned this above as well, any ideas on what it is about?

At first I'd thought it was religious, but apparently it's about Barney's relationship with his father, basically a lot of anger and frustration. Quite an issue there. He sang about father-son relationship again in Forbidden City.
I always thought it sounded a bit like The C*re (sorry everyone). Kind of similar atmosphere to "17 Seconds" LP.

That smiley is not childish at all, c'mon now; these ones are more like it:

you really know how to crush a guy; now your punishment for sacrilege is :headoff:
I did apologise in advance!
Anyway The C*re have ripped off NO enough - I remember some interview with Hooky where his gran had said she liked the new single - it turned out to be "In Between Days"!
Besides (to make matters worse) I really like "17 Seconds" - the shame, the shame![]()

Ok you are forgiven
, now let's keep Fat Bob ![]()
It's not bad, but I agree with the others about the live versions. Check that out if you think the studio version is bad! ![]()
the version on PFD sucks ass, as does the whole middle middle section of the concert. they are not playing as a band, just a group of individuals at that point
I think Sunrise is an epic of a song, it blew me away the first time i heard it and still, masterful. ![]()
hmmm not really one of my favourites. Barney sounds like he's straining a bit there but other than that it is quite a cool rock song... ![]()
his vocals on Sunrise remind me of his live vocals throughout the gestation of the Low Life songs. Sooner than You think is in my head right now, very similar. The first time TPK was performed live had that fast high pitched lyrics that one can not comprehend. it must be the transistion from the flat, ESL sounding vocals from Movement and PC&L to the much improved vocals on Brotherhood.
Anyone have the lyrics to the early versions of Low Life's songs??
i think its a chooon
have the sunrise instrumental (wasnt that on some tape - featuremist was it?) but the low life one rocks like a bastard
