Q Awards shocker

Well, not really. No surprises at all.

Ash got best single with 'Burn Baby Burn' so obviously New Order won feck all. Not a bad song, but not in the same league as Crystal (even excusing the bias) and from a band who haven't improved at all since the 1977 album.

However, the real surprise of the awards was......................................................

U2 won something. Despite not winning a real award, it would obviously have been a disgrace if U2 didn't pick up something as they are the bestest band in the world (apart from REM).

Nice to see Q following the pioneering approach of the Brit Awards and making up an award in order to ensure a 'deserving' (and big selling) band get an award after being cruelly ignored in all the genuine categories.

Quelle surprise.

U2, bestest band ?!

Maybe they're the hugest. But their songs are poor, in my opinion...

er, I was taking rhe piss. Can't stand U2 and can't stand even more Q's fawning appreciation of them, REM and now it seems, Radiohead as well.

The fact that Radiohead's last 3 albums have all been grossly inferior to The Bends and that U2 are well, shit, is conveniently ignored.

that's a pretty poor choice for single of the year - can't recall how it goes. is it the one with the cheerleaders in the video?

there have been MUCH better singles this year, even if it couldn't have been the order - frontier psychiatrist say, etc.

burn baby burn wouldnt be in my top ten

shocker.

Sorry I misinterpreted you, Zico.

As I said somewhere else today, I love Radiohead when they're not afraid of putting beautiful tunes...

No bother mate. Had to move quickly there to avoid any U2 associations!

Haven't seen your earlier posting about Radiohead but yeah, they have made some fantastic songs; Fake Plastic Trees, High & Dry, Karma Police etc. Amnesiac is not bad but someone should really tell Thom Yorke that regardless if a song sounds different, if it ain't any good, it ain't any good.

"burn baby burn"? best single this year? who are q magazine and their largely clueless readers trying to fool? that song is fair to middling if you ask me. and as for u2 receiving yet another award, well its totally laughable isnt it? q magazine are selling other bands short with their relentless insistence on u2s greatness, and superiority to all others. the ridiculous amounts of coverage they give to that fuckwit bono and his crew, could be used to cover other more interesting, more talented and more deserving acts(and i don`t just mean new order, who by the way have never had a q cover).

Did the Monophonics win anything then? :D

Best single this year for me has been 19-2000 by the Gorillaz, and their album is the album of the year. And before you all start on me I fuckin hate Blur and dickhead Damon especially, but a good record is a good record, simple as that! :smoking:

I wouldn't have wanted NO's good name tarnished by the shite in that awards list.

I thought the Ash song was pretty good though-despite not being the best single off their album.

Fucking Noreen are we all saying that Fag Ash won the best single with Burn My Baby Burn in the Machine?... holy toleedo what on god's earth is the world coming to?... are we at meltdown with public quality control? - that is an average song, not even as good as their one good song 'The Girl from the Mars Bars' which I quite enjoyed. I think Hibb-knocker is accurate with Frontier Pyschiatrist, I mean, that's at least one of many dozens of eggs better than Ash's effort... and at least its almost original in its kind of 80's vibe of stealing a load of songs and putting them together in a pump up the volume levels way. Christ even Eltonic Jonathan's new song is better than that Ash load of wanker.

Pissing hell what a Q disaster for themselves.

(mind, at least Katherine's Bush got a lifetime achievement award for the 2 singles she released back in '82).

I vote we all trash the offices of Q and take the editor hostage for a few hours until he's wee'd in his trouser legs.

:hat:

(maybe not)
