Use your ears.

Go to your local record store and buy the compilation "International".

Or, if you just want to listen, go to you better record store, used record store, or DJ store, and see if they have Blue Monday on CD, LP, tape, or the original 12" record, and then ask them if you can listen to it (sales people usually give you less sarcastic answers than people hanging around on-line forums...)

That's actually poor advice. "International" is missing the first couple beats of 'Blue Monday' so it's not quite the full version she is seeking.

I figured someone was going to be anal enough and remark on this...

I see "International" as a fairly good tradeoff between missing the first 2 ro 3 drumbeats vs. getting a decent introduction to other great NO tracks for a fair price...

Why not buy Substance 87, that has the full version of Blue Monday, but then it has those crappy rerecordings of Temptaion and Confusion, what were they thinking?

They were thinking of the then current maximum cd length of 74 minutes. Instead of editing down mixes that they were no longer happy with, they decided to record the arrangements used live. Not everyone thinks they're crappy.

Back to the original question. If Substance is too big of an investment for a newbie, I recommend the Warner Brothers release of Power, Corruption & Lies. In addition to Blue Monday and The Beach, you get some great New Order tracks in a variety of styles.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Question:

Is this the most pointless thread ever? (apart from any I might have started, obviously)

Well, when it first came out a few friends of mine bought a four minute 7" version of it. One friend played it to me and i had to tell him there were three and a half minutes missing, i thought he was going to cry. You don't want your favourite song of the moment fading out half way through, do ya?
