There's always been a dispute about these NZ shows, as the venue details seem to change, and on this one the set list gets switched around as well !
They definitely played 06/12/82 and 08/12/82. One was Christchurch Hillsborough Hotel and one was Wellington Victoria University. They also definitely played Auckland Mainstreet on 03/12/82.
I have always believed that the 06/12/82 set is the one you have listed, and was Christchurch. The Wellington set was 08/12/82, began with Your Silent Face and ended with a very long 586.
The key thing here is that the gig you list was recorded on a bootleg vinyl, and some copies have the sleeves mixed up. The full show, which is from cassette not vinyl, proves that they opened with ICB, and that tracks 6-9 on your listing above were in fact tracks 1-5. Think of it as side 2 being before side 1 and you'll be about right !
The NOOL listing may still be wrong though, there's no 586 at the end (or in the middle !).
I just wish i was there for that gig, it would have been great to see them in my old home town, oh well.
Does any body know where "Love Juice" was recorded in NZ (it's available on this sight) absolutely love that song. I think it's my favourite live NO song. Does anybody know the history of it? Thanx

It was recorded at the Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland on 23rd May 1985 as the second encore track. It was a live jam, rather than a song, and the widely used title stems from the typical Barney line "love juice smells like stale fish".
I was at both Auckland gigs - 1982 & 1985 (and another subsequent one) - here are my thoughts for what they're worth.
It would be logistically stupid and much more costly to do Auckland > Christchurch > Wellington, because Christchurch is in the South Island (therefore either an extra flight or ferry crossing would be required). All the touring bands did from one end of the country to the other. Also, as the next gig was in Perth, they would have had to fly out from Christchurch or back via Auckland in those days.
The show that turned up on bootleg vinyl would probably be the Wellington show because Radio Active FM (student station) was doing a lot of live-to-airs at that time & the Christchurch pub gig would not have been broadcast on FM radio. Radio Active broadcast the sensational Fall gig a few months earlier.
The 1985 gig at the Logan Concrete Centre was pretty average, not a patch on the 1982 Mainstreet show. My memory seems to recall Peter Hook having to drag the rest of the band back on for the encores and making some comment about a family link to NZ - is that on the tape?
BTW Tim & Clayts (deserters from the Fall forum), have you heard The Real New Fall LP - pure genius! Even better than the early mix I sent you Tim.

This is basically what I thought, with the exception of the bit about the bootleg. The nine song set Julio quoted above is definitely not from any radio broadcast (or if it is, the producer should be shot !), it is an ordinary audience recording from a small venue, and is almost certainly Christchurch. I've got two different source copies of the Wellington show that ends with a 15 min version of 586, a mixer and a very good audience recording, these came from two different people within days of the gig and both were marked as Wellington Victoria University.
The 85 Logan Campbell show tape features Hook's comments about NZ - his mother was a Kiwi, so it seems.
Haven't heard the Real New Fall CD yet - just moved house so haven't had chance to get anywhere near record shop. I'm not a deserter, just can't stand FFD's ten million rants per hour about mostly inconsequential garbage ! Is he MES ??

Ha, I can remember this quite clearly from 18 years ago, but don't ask me what happened last week.

Here are details regarding the mixer mentioned above written up by GaoBest, which I don't have. I only have the FM version MP3s, I think.

- 5-8-6 (missing part of beginning???)
81 minutes note: this is the mixing desk recording; originally recorded on reel-to-reel tape, in incorrect phasing; phasing corrected in 1983 or 1984 or so; later archived to DAT in LP (32khz) speed. note: there is also an audience recording, of which I've not yet heard to determine if the 5-8-6 track is longer.
So, based on what I'm reading, the 08 DEC 82 gig may have no less than *four* sources.
A regular audience recording, the FM broadcast, the mixing desk, and a roadie audience recording, which came directly from the band(!), according to what the taper told GaoBest.
GaoBest also states (again, based on what his AU/NZ sources were telling him) that both gigs were in Wellington, or else he's saying his tapers *claimed* that both gigs were, a bit hard to tell from the context. The 06 DEC 82 date appears to be sourced from Mark Johnson's book, is there independent confirmation that there was in fact a Christchurch gig?
At this point, old Waterrat and NOOL have Christchurch, then Wellington. WIM and my updated Waterrat have it the right way around. The tape listings in the History In Cuttings doesn't list either of them.
