Ian Curtis and heroin addiction

I was reading Debbie's book and there was no mention of this, but i've read articles that he was a user. So, was he addicted, an occasional user, a dabbler or is this rumour a complete load of crap. One story i heard is that he was doing "cold turkey" the night he died. Does anyone have info on this? Thanx.

The only one I know of being a heroin addict was Martin Hannett. Haven't heard anything about Ian.

Could it be than Martin introduced Ian into that lifestyle (if you can call the misery of drug addiction a "lifstyle").

One source was a pamphlet written by two music jounalists (i'm afraid i don't remember their names), the pamphlet also included extracts from his suicide note and they said he was "hanging out" from heroin the night he died. I would just like to know if this is true or not.

The pamphlet i'm talking about was published nearly 20 years ago, a friend lent it to me, i only read it once, it made me feel so sorry for him because of all the other problems (turmoil?) he had in his life. I really hope that he didn't go through this hell.

I'd be very surprised if this were the case. There's a world of difference between dry cleaning fluid and heroin.

according to debbie curtis's "touching from a distance", she talks about ian in his teens with his fellow school mates sniffing dry cleaning fluid and other types of solvents to get high.

Hmm, I always got the impression that, while not totally clean (they did do the mary-juana), Joy Division weren't much on the drug scene in Britain. Maybe it's naietivity or a subconcious desire to see at least one of my musical heroes not ruined by shooting up once too often, but I've never seen them as heavy drug users...at that time (New Order, of course, is a different story :D ).

Ian was a huge VU fan, and anyone with even a passing knowledge of Lou Reed knows about that band's drug use (one of their best songs is named "Heroin", after all), so it's possible he took it up as some form of fan worship. Then again, I've been a VU fan for years and I've never once been tempted to try "H", so it's really anybody's guess. This is certainly the first I've heard of it, for what that's worth (you would've thought it'd be mentioned by now, what with Debbie laying out their entire history together back in '95)

I think it's bollocks, to be quite frank. We'd have known about it by now if there were anything in it. Don't suppose you've got the video of Plan K as well have you ?

My rough guess would be that sidi pamphlet was a hoax, or at least speculative: as far as I was aware Ian's suicide note has never been made public, even in dubious form (unless somebody wants to put me right on this?). Surely only Debbie and a couple of rozzers/stae officials have seen it??

Who fucking cares about, if he did heroin or not? What's the use to know if Barney or Hooky or Gillian ever smacked or injected or sniffed this heroic drug? My advice is: If you wanna get the taste then do it!
