Best Remixes

I was just listening and enjoying: new order - crystal (intervox seasons mix)

I only like mixes that keep the vocals intact like this one. What are other great remixes that, like this one, stay true to the vocals, yet at the same time offer a different musical ride?

New Order songs have absolutley no lyrical integrity whatsoever; they are just waiting to be pulled apart; remixed, and re-experienced. You can't destroy what they've done - the music is just too strong. Give it up, listen to everything NO, don't be afraid, they're not.

What I meant was that most New Order tracks are ripe for cutting up and mixing because they don't have a linear thread to the lyrics, like, say a conventional singer songwriter. but the music is so strong that the tracks usually remain distinctly NO (there are exceptions I know) Taking 'Crystal' as a case in point - there was actually a Crystal remix competition, where NO made the loops of drum, bass, guitar, vocals, backing vocals etc. available, and the software could be downloaded for anybody to have a go at mixing the track - and it's quite difficult not to get something that sounds good, whatever order the bits are put in. my fave remixes- 1- true faith 94 -perfecto mix 2-tbthog-rest of new order,classic mix but the intro is far too long!cant remember who the remixer was either! the old stella clouding my judgement again! steve

FIRE ISLAND MIX of REGRET.

I hate most remixes. In the long run its almost always the originals I prefer. The only remixes I like are the ones done more or less in co-operation with the band when the songs were new. Something like the BLT 12" comes to mind. I hate it when these so called producers come and destroy my favourite songs and make them almost unrecoginzable, taking everything out of context, adding new instruments (electronic effects)and throwing away Mr Hooks base lines.

I think some of the remixes are better than the originals, to be honest: Peter Black's 586, Athur Baker's remix of 1963, the 'Record Mirror' mix of 'Subculture' (Razormaid). I'm not sure how close to the original date of release all of these are; it seems irrelevant to me, although I think they are all 'official'. I agree that some remixes are almost unrecognisable, but that's what I enjoy; hearing a different spin on old tracks (I think they can take it) - the 'Morels' series of mixes of True Faith are a real earopener. Still, it takes all sorts.

I really like the 'World' perfecto mix, makes me wanna get off my office chair and stand on the desk and do the roboty dancy thingy... everyday I sit in this grey cubical just like Neo's and I'm just waiting to take that red pill.

There's a house version of Confusion knocking about that is pure class, not sure its offical though.

There were some house remixes that arthur baker did in 1990, I have a 12" somewhere. These are different to the 2002 remixes of confusion - of which I really like the Junior Sanchez Remix.

586, do you know where I could obtain a copy of these Arthur Baker remixes?

Yes there are about 6 mixes on the 1990 one.

Fire Island & Sabres Slo'n'Lo of Regret are both sublime (Sabres Slo'n'lo a little overlong on the 12 maybe?).

Drum pattern on the Slo'n'lo mix (or close approximate) can be found on a 12 released around 1993/4 - Peace Together charity record with a Sabres A side and 3 further tracks on the b-side, one of them Therapy?. Purple cover. Circle w/ cog teeth somewhere floating around.

A common theme of this discussion appears to be the preference for remixes of Republic tracks over the Stephen Hague produced originals, with which I heartily agree.

My favourites are the Ambient and Reunited in a Day mixes of "Ruined". Perhaps if the circumstances around the making of the album had been different, I think it would have been a corker of a album (if they'd ditched "Liar" too).

Sorry, rambling off topic somewhat. I also agree that the Weatherall mixes of "Regret" are excellent.

(By the way: on the French CDS the "Fast'n'Throb" mix fades out - does anyone know a way of getting the full mix on CD? I have a fairly crappy MP3, but that's all.)

Cheers Andy - these are the same mixes as on the French CDS. The full version of "Fast'n'Throb" lasts 13:34 and doesn't fade out where the synth line comes in at just after 12 minutes.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers Andy - these are the same mixes as on the French CDS. The full version of "Fast'n'Throb" lasts 13:34 and doesn't fade out where the synth line comes in at just after 12 minutes.

I haven't actually checked the timing between the FR CD5, JP CD, and UK 12". Are you saying that the FR CD5's Fast'n'Throb version is 13:34? Do you know anything about the FR 12"?

No, the French CD5 is 12 minutes whatever and fades out - from the above it looks as though the Japanese Republic has this same fade out version too.

I only have the 13.34 version on a crappy MP3 and would like a CD with it on, but can't establish if it ever got a CD release. It's a real shame, cos the bit where the CD versions fade out is where this really nice synth line comes in.

Really really like the reunited in a day remix of ruined in a day. Made the song better than it was on the album. Also like the Fire Island Mix of Regret and Shame of the Nation and the 94 re-release long version of Perfecto True Faith.

The Fire Island mix of Regret and the Gabriel & Dresden 911 Vocal Mix of Someone Like You are my favorites. I also like the Hardfloor Mix of Blue Monday. Don't care too much for most other remixes...

Well, the only CDs with these versions are the JP CD and the FR CD5.

What other 12" have you checked. Is the 13+ version only on the UK 12" promo, or is it also on the regular UK 12" and the FR 12"?
