Which side project songs could have made great New Order songs?

I don't know if anybody else feels a bit ambivelent about the side projects. I mean it is great that they continued making music. Somebody once said though something like that not one of them was a quarter as good a New Order. Whilst there is some truth in that I don't fully agree. In my opinion they side projects kept the members of New Order apart for far too long. A break was needed, but 5 or 8 years depending if you count live performances or albums, is far too long.

Anyway I guess the point I am making is does anybody else feel that we missed out on a lot of great music? The potential was certainly there.

Does anybody else feel that songs like Forbidden City or What Do You Want From Me arranged in the New Order way could have been great New Order tracks.

Are there any other songs that you think would fit into the great lost New Order songs category?

Well Alejo, we talked about everything there is no talk, so it's normal new people kicks in the same topics... but it's an occasion for the new ones to share their opinion without browsing the last 100000 messages :lol:

For me, Twisted Tenderness would have been a great New Order track, just add Hooky's bass.. and it's one of these track you wonder why it was not released as a single (I think the Electronic project didn't interest the label as much then)...

I could also imagine Vivid with Hooky's bass instead of Mr Marr's harmonica..

From Raise The Pressure, obviously Forbidden City and, well, Freefall.. which is a spin-off of Special in my mind...

From Electronic, Get The Message probably? Getting Away With It being more than Electronic, it's hard to judge.. maybe Tighten Up...

From Monaco, well, I have a hard time, because put Barney on vocals and I feel this WOULD be New Order.. I know many people don't agree with me there.. WDYWFM, it would be hard, I don't think Barney's vocals would work for the entire track there.. all Pottsy songs would do.. Kashmere would probably be very good, as would be Shine (if Barney could do it)

To be honest with you I tend to look at most of these side project songs as being New Order ones anyway - they are so indelibly "Barney" or "Hooky" songs. Wasn't half of the first Electronic album stored on that Mac that Jonny Lucas won from the band, proof that they were written as New Order songs ?

They should've released 'Electronic' as a New Order album instead of 'Republic', IMHO. Beyond that though I'm not overtly keen on Electronic's muzak.

Aside from Electronic, off the top of me head I'd pick Big Bang and State of Shock by Revenge, WDYWFM and Junk by Monaco, and maybe Tasty Fish by TO2.

Obscure maybe, but Electronics 'Vivid' b side 'Radiation' would sound great if a few lyrics were added alongside a sprinkling of Hooky bass.

I think "Tasty Fish" would have been better with Barney singing. Also the whole of "One True Passion"!:D

On the other hand, most of the Electronic stuff misses Hooky's godlike bass (and, as an aside, Johnny Marr's guitar playing!).

In reverse, "Everyone Everywhere" is an Electronic song isn't it?
