Over on the British Sea Power site a few posters were raving about the Galaxie 500 cover of ceremony, on their "On Fire" album. Haven't heard this version before - does it rate?

B-side of the Blue Thunder (w/ sax) single. Great version of a great song by a great band. I think I remember somewhere Peter Hook saying that he showed them how to play it or something.

it's on the remastered 'on fire' cd not the original. I remember seeing them play it in manchester uni and I was standing only a few feet away from peter hook, can't remember his reaction to it though...I'm sure he approved as it is pretty good

On Fire - Is that the one with the song that starts "I wrote a poem n a dog biscuit, but the dog refused to look at it"?

I think the song's 4th of July, and On Fire's the album.

Correct on the song title, but it's on the album "This is Our Music". Very amazing band, I must say. I bought their box set a few years back and it still gets many listens. Their music like the perfect blend of The Velvet Underground's third album meets "Unknown Pleasures".

I've just uploaded it to Floyd's MP3 site.

Don't think they've done it particularly brilliantly. Considering it's one of The songs where general mayhem ensues at New Order gigs they've dumbed it down somewhat and stretched it out too much. Slower than the 12" New Order put out and as 'muddy' to these ears as anything from the Western Works demos.

I've also got a version they did for an official live album somewhere, but that's even worse.
