Did you mean to say this?! ![]()
This would only include the 7"s of Ceremony and Temptation, would it not?!
Yep, release it as a double A-side tomorrow!
Definitely should. And stick tot he original packaging for BM to make sure they still lose money on it ![]()

What I am getting at Al is if the singles were re-released on cd(those that havn't been) what would your view be, would you prefer it or would you feel it would spoil the prestige of the Factory original releases on vinyl.
Oh right, you mean, if they re-issue a Ceremony CD, a Temptation CD, an EGG CD, etc.
I had visions of another compilation, so didn't get your point. We've already had Substance and Retro so all bases are just about covered, bar the tracks I mentioned.
Can't say I'm fussed but - obviously - I'd buy them!
Yes, do release them! They have a CD of 1081-FEP-1982 or wahtever it's called, why not the actual singles? They have BLT on CD too... I say for sure, I'd buy them in a flash.
This isn't such a bad idea. They could release each single as a CD single, maybe even adding a special bonus track of a live version of the song, and then once they'd done that they could release a box set of all of them, knowing full well that we'd all go out and buy that as well !

As if.....
Good idea for us completist, but from the viewpoint of a jet-setting London Records executive (who has to afford all those escargo lunches with naked female circus performers on their yacht cruising around the Cape of Good Hope with drug dealers in hot pursuit), it wouldn't be profitable. It probably won't see the light of day :(

I can't see how they can't make money on it. Release 20,000 copies of each. All will sell out and there will be a week when New Order are the top 20 ![]()

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. Release a definitive single version for each of the Early songs. Ceremony would have the 7", 12", B-Side and maybe a live cut. Temptation could collect all the numerous versions, plus B-Side, and so on with all the early material not on CD, then release it as a boxset. Not that im a Duran Duran fan, but they put out something similar with that 1981-1985 singles boxset.
Yep, boxset of nice reproduction singles would be nice, but from a budget/already available point of view, I'd rather a single (or double) CD collecting the never on CD edits, etc. [Mr. Discography's Personal Retro list a couple of months ago hit the spot very nicely, but you could probably cut it down a little to only unreleased stuff].
In particular, all the original 7" As and Bs are crying out to be compiled, perhaps with Confusion Rough/Beats and The Perfect Pit for good measure, space permitting.
The Undertones released a very good 2 CD As and Bs package a year or so ago. Something like that would be great. However, I suspect that they will continue to emerge in dribs and drabs as London issue another compilation in five years time...
10 years later than Depeche Mode.
Actually, it would be a good deal for people in Europe to release the latest singles into a 1 CD compilation, due to the single chart, they have to split them in multiple CDs, so having all Crystal on one CD, etc...
Would be a good idea, but obviously London Records don't think it's a good idea, otherwise it would have been done for a long time.. BLT was released on CD by the US label, years later! True Faith wasn't done due to TF94, but still...
It's "Recycle", without any "box" consideration, the way it should be done.

I must admit that this is Depeche Mode's label philosophy... "if you do it, they'll buy it"...
Which fairly accurately sums up too much of London Records' approach to marketing New Order. I'm not alone in yearning for the gloriously haphazard days of the mid 80s, when the Order could by and large do what they wanted, both live and in the studio, rather than having to do what the record company dictated. Even the US tours were driven by non-record company motives.

should definately release them on cd, I believe there's a market and demand for them, I'd buy them in a flash! Remember Andrew Eldritch's "Some Girls Wander By Mistake"?
NO fans would really appreciate these rare tracks on CD singles or in a compilation ![]()
Rare tracks ? So fookin' rare that nobody has got them then ! We've already had this singles/B-sides pre-1987 compilation, it was called Substance. Bar a handful of odds and sods, everything else has been on an album. What more do people want ?

Some random comments...
I completely agree, FWIW. Even Retro's bonus disc didn't offer anything that had not previously leaked out in some form or another, not that it wasn't appreciated. At least they didn't appear to try to post-produce some of the live tracks...they kept the vocal mistakes in the live version of Transmission, for instance. That leads me to wonder who was responsible for the track selections of the bonus disc...they seemed somewhat odd...but I'm hard-pressed to explain why I believe this, except to note that Mesh (the real Mesh, not the one that appears on Substance) was left off...I really should hunt down the Canadian Cd version of 1981-2...maybe it was left off because the masters had been lost or were too degraded to remaster...
Something I noticed recently...if you listen closely to the long version of Elegia, you can hear Barney tell one of the other members to adjust one of the synths or something...as if it was a complete live take (similar to TPK FAC123/321, but faded out presumably before it dissolved into chaos.

... which to be fair is the reason that a great independent label like Mute is still with us, while Factory, Rough Trade (in its original form) and Creation aren't. So I have no problem with labels making the most of "their" catalogues, as long as it is done properly, for instance because the fans can't find some tracks, edits, etc or because they have never been on CD.
Personally I'd love to see James Nice at LTM given the job, because the quality of re-issues on his label is extremely high and you get exceptional value for money (album plus extras/singles and Bs all for under a tenner a go). Obviously that isn't going to happen and I doubt that London see much beyond the balance sheet aspect.
As for Tim's perfectly good point about Substance, etc, some saddo completists like me still want digital remasters of all the edits and remixes that have only come out on vinyl. Wouldn't you buy them?
wait... I'm sorry but I don't follow what you're saying about Depeche Mode.
I mean, they haven't released many compilations. All I can think of is: "Catching Up w/ DM" and the two singles sets - which really couldn't have been put together.
And it's not like they put out many diff. releases for singles. But they are one of the VERY FEW (european) bands that still release singles in the US. And (usually) the US singles have all the tracks from the EU singles - so you only have to buy one disc, instead of 2 or even 3
DM have released three box sets of individual CD singles, including all the B-sides, remixes, etc. These are available on Mute in the UK (I don't know about worldwide).
I think that's what Nicos was referring to and it's definitely what I was referring to!
Alken:)
Maybe. I'd prefer a single or double CD of never-before-on-CD stuff, but a singles boxed set would do the same thing really (but for more money).
I haven't got the DM ones, but they're pretty neat. And let's face it, you don't have to buy 'em if you don't like the idea.![]()
