And here's the list for 1982-3:

1982

WIM has Seinajoki Festival in Finland listed as 820604, WR has it listed as 820605. I'm wondering if the festival was over the course of multiple days, with the difference being over the start date versus the date NO took the stage.

WR lists the 821204 Mainstreat Auckland NZ gig, WIM does not.

WIM lists the 821211 Manly Vale Hotel Sydney gig, WR does not.

1983

WIM (and NOOL) pins the Galway University Ireland gigs to 830423. WR has question marks, but the placement of the entry between entries on the 22nd and 24th makes this appear to be a clerical omission.

WR lists an 830524 entry for Pennies Norwhich, which doesn't appear elsewhere. This is undoubtedly a ghost entry for the 820524 gig.

WR lists a 831205 date in London England that WIM does not. NOOL omits this listing.

Sorry, haven't really been paying full attention. I was at the Mainstreet 1982 show - what's the question?

Has the Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch tour order been agreed?

As play commences, the Water Rats get a quick goal right underneath the top bar, on a lucky shot by Gazza Beckhamwhatsit. 1-0 WR.

The World In Motion lads tie it right up at one apiece.

WIM's Mark Johnson streaks past the shellshocked WR defenders for a 2-1 lead.

The WIM crew surge, and take a commanding 3-1 lead over the rapidly drowning Water Rats.

WR lists an 830524 entry for Pennies Norwhich, which doesn't appear elsewhere. This is undoubtedly a ghost entry for the 820524 gig. Yes, this is bogus. Told WR this on more than one occasion !

The WR goalie watches a soft liner slip right through his fingers and into the net. 4-1 WIM.

WR lists a 831205 date in London England that WIM does not. NOOL omits this listing. There was no gig on this date !

And David Sultan Will Be Very Happy About That...Final 5-1 WIM, another rout.

updates made...stay tuned for the next match

I think you answered it, which I've highlighted by coloring the appropriate word.

Has the Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch tour order been agreed?

For '82? Didn't know there was a controversy, but it sure looks like either the Order liked resting between gigs, Hooky was off visiting his relatives in NZ, or there's still entries to be hunted down....dunno...

I've caught up now. As best I can remember, there was only one show here in Auckland... but it was 21 years ago and I may have lost a few brain cells since then. I'm pretty sure it was a week night, late in the week. Probably a Friday night.

There was a previous discussion about the order of the NZ tour - some lists say Auckland > Wellington > Christchurch (which is what I would expect), but some have the last 2 gigs in the reverse order. Tim will remember the context of that discussion - wasn't all that long ago.

WIM & Waterrat have Akl > Welli > Chch but here it's shown as Akl > Chch > Welli. I'm pretty sure it was the former and only 1 gig at each stop.

Yeah, which way to travel through New Zealand with an AC30 in tow ?

The discussion, Sam, was over which gig was Wellington and which gig was Christchurch. Both recordings I have of the show that began with KW1 were marked "Wellington Victoria University 08/12/82" - my recording of the other show that arrived from an independent source claimed it was Christchurch Hillsborough Hotel 06/12/82. This hasn't always tallied with everyone else's listings (indeed the WR track listing of the show that didn't start with KW1 places the songs in a different order to the unbroken recording I have.....).

I think we agreed between us, (didn't we ?) that the Christchurch show had been 6 December, and the Wellington one (which began with KW1 and featured a 20 minute version of 586 as the encore) was 8 Dec.

WR lists an 830524 entry for Pennies Norwich, which doesn't appear elsewhere. This is undoubtedly a ghost entry for the 820524 gig. Yes, this is bogus. Told WR this on more than one occasion !

Forgot one...

There's also a 820505 London Kilburn listing, which like Norwich, seems to be a echo or ghost entry of the 820525 entry, if you can confirm...

Well, I don't think we did agree on that actually, Tim. Your scenario contradicts WIM, Waterrat, my memory, normal NZ touring logistics & (so I've just noticed) the Ideal For Living Book... all of which would have the Wellington gig on 6 December & Christchurch on the 8th. So it remains unresolved, I guess.

I've just read back what I put, and guess what ? I've confused the two myself ! :nonono: Wellington 6 Dec, Christchurch 8 Dec. Job's a good 'un. Now if we know which venue was which date, all we need to be able to do is match the setlist to the venue. I still believe the long set is from the 8 Dec gig.

Turns out this one was 1982-06-06...see Gigography detail listing for Provinssirock for more detail.

So make that 4-1 for WIM

The Whistle Test set/Second set later in the evening (Hacienda) was in fact Tuesday December 10, 1985 and not the third.

"Of a strained directors' meeting during the 1991 difficulties: 'I said to Barney , 'I know it's been one long saga of human hell, but if there's a button you could press and the club never existed, you couldn't press it.' He replied: 'Where's the fucking button?'" Anthony H. Wilson

Sorry Jon, it was definitely the 3rd. They were in Paris on the 10th. The Hacienda songs (well, the first two of the first set) were broadcast live on the 3rd, three days later it was Central London Poly and then Slough, then a couple of days off before the French, Belgian and Dutch dates. Indelibly stamped on my mind, and the bootleg collection!

OldMonkey I make you right. Apologies. The tenth was in fact the transmission date on BBC2. I remember ending up under some bus shelter in Prestwich (Salford) the following morning! ...God knows how. Missed the last train back to London. Possibly the first time I ever heard As It Is And When It Was in the flesh too. Love. x

Whoops! And before all the Tims put me to the sword - was '94 not '84 when we took the rise out of our dear friends from the Govan. Hail! Hail!
