avalanche: a means to an end?

You all think if Republic would've been the final album, Avalanche would've been a worthy last song to end the band's career with?

Personally, I think it's a lovely little instrumental, and Gillian's vocal stylings on it kinda bookend the band's career in a sense, what with her joining to the remnants of JD to form New Order proper (exempting that first little jaunt as a trio). However, Hooky's trademark bass is missing, and the drums aren't really in Stevie's signature style. So I'm a bit split over the track.

i agree with the LOVELY LITTLE INSTRUMENTAL bit...that pretty much sums it up. nothing more, nothing less.

I don't really think it would've been a worthy last song, no. It's so depressing! I can't listen to it because it makes me cry.

I always appreciated the repeated "faith" lyric. It seemed for the longest time that this would be 'their last track' but I always maintained that little bit of faith ... and in retrospect it all seems to fit nicely now.

A good song and thankfully not their last.:D

Yeah, there's something perfectly simple and infinitely mournful about it - it really did sound as if they knew this was the end.....

I'll agree. But then Brutal came out. And a song like that is no way to end a career.
