Chili Peppers check New Order
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have revealed that New Order and Sonny And Cher were the inspiration for a song on their latest album, By The Way.
Guitarist John Fruscante said that his solo on the track, Universally Speaking, "is very influenced by Peter Hook, the bass player from New Order. Flea is doing something very much in his style. It is a tiny tribute to him."

yeah, did you hear "zephir´s song"? in spite of Flea being technically better than Hooky he just can´t play the way he does. maybe it´s because he´s playing with his fingers intead of a pick. but he tries to make a "hooky riff" on that song.
yeh, Hooky's one of a kind, haven't heard any bassists or guitarists that play even remotely like him. He's got style and class and... technique

Well, have you ever listened to Pere Ubu's "Heart of Darkness" (a single from 1975, available on the 'Terminal Tower' compilation) or Can's "Yoo Doo Right" (from 1969!!)? Those offer a nice blueprint for Hooky's 1979 sound.

I don't know if I've been overdoignt he festive cheer, but did they not cover a couple of JD songs when they toured this year
I remember reading in some mag reporting that John Frus & Flea formed a JD cover band for only one gig... sometime last year ( or this year? )....

"Heart of Darkness" is an absolutely essential listen, I found it on a punk compilation and it's far and away one of the best things I've ever heard. Had to be a huge influence on JD 
I remember in the Mojo interview of NO back in '01, there was a paragraph describing JD's influence and cited the Chili Peppers and the Smashing Pumpkins both doing entire shows of JD covers. Anyone know about this?

I don't know if Smashing Pumpkins did an entire show of JD covers, but, during the Adore tour in '98, "Transmission" was played at almost every show. Also, in about 1992, they released some kind of LP, almost like a side project with Catherine Wheel, I think, called StarChildren/Songs About Girls that has a pretty good cover of "Isolation" on it. Now, if only their cover of the Cure's "A night like this" could've been better.
