To be honest, seeing smilies in nicknames iritates me a little.. I have tolerated colors since mr Hank wiseass used them, but there are people exagerating a little, I've even seen HTML coding in nicknames...

Plus color codes sure doesn't help the sorting on this site, so maybe I'll have to split a "visual one" and a "data one" for our data management (they usually show first in the fan club for instance, and search is almost impossible)...

I say leave them alone...I think a little bit of individuality can be a good thing....

Brutal repression is the thing to do, best way to emphasize your dominance Mein Fuhrer :p

I have never considered using a smilie in my nickname, I just went with a color because I finally figured out how to. I'm happy with my nickname, my picture, my profile, and I change the signature every so often to keep it interesting. So I really have no opinion personally one way or another.

Whatever makes life easier for those doing the hard work.

Personally I'm not bothered either way, so if it's less hassle to keep things running smoothly then do whatever it takes. Like Mr.#7, I only chose colours etc. on my name 'cos I found out how to!

After all, we can have plenty colours and smilies :evil4: in the posts!

However, I do like the freedom we have with avatars. That's the dogs bollocks, as the saying goes!

Color should still be available to those wanting to use it -- no harm there, and it even enhances the look of the message board.

Smileys and URL codes should not be used in there, though.
