thanks Robin and Marko for the tips. Twist and myself are still struggling with the lyrics but we'll get there ! Tim, not quite sure what you've decided to do here: 'raring to go' ?! Taking time off first to celebrate Hogmanay, have a good one everyone

The M1 is a motorway (freeway) that links London & Leeds (seems like i've been here before
)
Nottingham 84 gig on Floyd site has an interesting version of TPK. Still has the 'do do a do' instead of "my friend saved his final breath." "We believe in the chosen few." Also a repeat of the chorus during the instrumental orgasims after the last verse. Sound quality quite good, btw.
TY Floyd
Twist, have you heard Leicester 84? Received a copy today (thanks Simon
). Different lyrics again, and no chance of deciphering these, quality isn't too great.
Didn't get any further than the opening lines which are
You gave me the perfect kiss
You gave me the kiss of death ...
this one's gonna be filed under unsolved mysteries, me thinks.
Geri, Get the Nottingham 84 gig from Floyd's server. Good quality. Structurally almost done although the organiztion of the last verse still is floating around. Extra vocals instead of guitars after last verse.
We believe and know that it's true We believe in the choosen few.
IF you could zip that Leicester 84 version up and email it to me I'd be grateful. Love to hear it.

It's on good old fashioned tape I'm afraid. I'll ask the expert here to convert it for me and I send it, probably tomorrow.
Originally posted by KnownPleasures There's a couple of other early versions on their way to you Geri as well....

Nothing wrong with tapes. Still use cassettes for my car although I bought a $29 USD cd/mps player with car adapter. No skipping and if it gets stolen, I am down only $29.
mmm sounds a bit like a 'quote' from the young ones book from allegedly John Noakes 'my cock is bigger than the M25' if I can remember it correctly...
Chris, I've just sent you Leicester 84, hope it reaches you ok. Let me know please.
Real pissed off at the moment: signed onto Floyds server - no problem found Nottingham 84 - no problem started download - no problem waited 40 minutes - no problem
then Deek got home, managed to lose the downloaded file and I haven't been able to log on to Floyds server ever since ... guess who's in the doghouse tonight then ![]()
I'll zip up TPK from Nottingham and email it to you. Be sure to dl the whole gig sometime, it's quite good. Also get the Rose Hill Hotel gig from his site, great show, good quality, too.
TY TY TY I got mail![]()
Part 1 of the quest is almost over. We have the RFH May 14, 84 debut of the song and the second time it was played, Leicester May 21st plus the Nottingham June 4th near completion performance. Missing are the Birmingham June 3 and Bristol June 5 but I imagine that those performances are similar to the Nottingham version. My next recording is from the August 15, 84 Sunderland gig. This is 99% complete--Barney adds guitar after the last verse. Lyrics are the same as in the single and video with the exception of "my friend saved his final breath" which is still the "do do a doo." There probably changes with the sequencers and bass that I have not descerned having only listened to 1984 versions.
But what I think we need to find is a performance between early June and mid August of 1984. This would be found in the June 27th Southhampton gig or the mini-tour of Spain on July 5,6,7,10. The Valecia July 5 show would be choice because they opened with The Him.![]()
got your mail today, thanks Chris. haven't given it a serious listen yet: footie and noisy kids, my usual Sunday so far.
Tim's sending me some stuff, maybe some of the ones you mention are on it. If they are, I'll send them !
now listening for the third time, I love this one
although so far none of them beats the very first one.
by the way, any idea who the guy is that keeps shouting CEREMONY all throughout the Leicester gig, Mr Jarvis perhaps ?! :D
Yep, the Nottingham PK is great probably because the recording of it is at a B+ level as far as boots go. But the RFH PK has the one time only lyrics that make the song that much more magical.
Musical archeology.
I noticed that the crowds at UK NO shows are very vocal. I was listening to a boot from another band who played in the US and the audience is screaming like its the Beatles unlike NO gigs where they yell like a bunch of drunks thinking NO played requests.
The thing with shouting out requests is that you get to hear yourself on the bootleg !
Ever wondered who it was shouting "We All Stand" at many UK gigs between 1983 and 1986 ? None other than Mr Alex Staszko !
The only one you can really hear me on is Brum 86 when I managed to guess the correct next track !

this is the east side, this is the west side I saw you in front of my house You had a shotgun, you had a knife you blew me...
This is the first time, this is the last time I saw you in front of my house You had a shotgun, you had a knife You shot(?) at me and killed my wife
How could you cut in front of me You said 'I saw you right there in the show" I won't get up...wants gas?...
How did you get your name in front of me? Cuz I found you like I knew I should I won't get laid with them...cuz belsen was a gas...
Artificiality X 6
Look to the right I saw my ride You saw me with her long legs You said 'I am at last on my own"
'I looked' instead of 'look' but otherwise right
its not your own fault....

I've got a cock, it looks like the M1 It's long and thin, it's got a white line down it It curls about, it curls about There's crashes on it and service stations too.
Not so sure he says 'crashes on it' (definitely no 'it' in that line)...sounds closer to 'grass hills'...
O, Iv'e got a cock like the M1, Like the M1, like the Mmmmm 1
Absolute magic when the melody of the lyrics and the bass slide together.
Poetic class

Do we accept Roger Lyonsrock at his word here?
Wasn't he responsible for that horrid remix of 1963 that made Armand Van Helden's butchering of BLT looks like a work of genius in comparison?

Geri, aren't you supposed to be having a ball in London--can't do without your NOOL fix, Hee hee :D
