I always believe and profess that Bernard's vocals improve with every album. Witness Movement, he sounds as if he is from Germany, English is a second language for him. Witness Run Wild, wonderful voice. Of course there are limits and those limits are singing live for more than 20 minutes.

Now listen to any album by The Police and subsequent Sting solo effort. Always the same harsh unrefined vocals.

Finally, the original Confusion recording. Bernard was ill, had limited time in the studio before the flight out of NYC. Probably should never have been released with that vocal track. That part where he goes "you caused me some problems, you've taken my place," he sounds just like Sting.

Only time Sting ever captured my interest was when he was on the Simpsons. But, I'll take Barney's vocals any day.

Barney, by a very very very very wide margin, I went to one Police concert only because XTC was opening.

I get the feeling that seeing as this is a New Order website, Sting may not be held in such high regard as Barney. Only a possibility, of course.

I almost had the unfortunate priviledge of watching Sting tonight on 60 minutes. Luckily, I finished my dinner soon enough.

i prefer sting over bernard sumner, especially now..

i don't think new order has done anything worthwhile since low-life....

and listening to recent concerts, it doesn't sound like bernard is aging to well..

i was a big police fan, way before new order, and i still enjoy most of stings solo work....at least his voice isn't deteriorating as quickly....

but thats just me and my thoughts..

A pal of mine I play golf with periodically down in Boca Raton is good friends with Sting, and even HE is not shy of telling everyone what an egotistical, in love with himself, tosser he is and the sad fact is that Gordy boy is apparently quite comfortable with what people think of him!

I could never stand Sting's voice, since he almost reminds me of a British Bruce Springsteen - another man with a mediocre voice and poor guitar skills who thinks too highly of himself. And, it doesn't help my mother has a Christmas CD with Sting singing "I saw 3 ships" as the first track :barf: Barney, however, probably doesn't remember the words to any Christmas songs and his voice continues to get better, eventhough he is physically out of shape, to say the least.
