Err, no. James Nice said we could buy it directly from him around Christmas time.

this is what confused me:
"just pre-ordered it by amazon.de! Release on Feb.02, 2004 "
sorry! ;)
I know next to nothing about this other project of Peter Hooks, so on a scale of 1-10, how does everyone rate Revenge's music? is it essential listening?
As with all the projects it lacks the Other Three (except The Other Two, who lacked the erm, Other Two).
Still, it wasn't bad stuff and filled a NO shaped void at the time. Non-essential, frankly, except perhaps "Jesus, I Love You" off the "Seven Reasons" single.
I'd give One True Passion 6/10.
Thanks for the info :) How many UK singles and albums were officially issued domestically - were any released in the US at the time?
UK:
Seven Reasons Pineapple Face Slave GunWorldPorn EP
One True Passion LP
I'm sure this stuff came out in the US (actually my CD of OTP is on Columbia I think).
Well, I actually prefer the tracks off the "Gun World Porn EP", especially "State Of Shock" - a class track!
l8rs,
Nick ;)

the best Revenge track is about equal to the worst Electronic track. not sure why the very Nice Mr. James would want to rerelease this in a double disc set. the demand for this has to be severely limited. it would be tough to put out an EP of good songs from Revenge let alone a two disc set. LTM reissues are very nice but this is ridiculous. I pulled out the Gun World Porn US Promo Cassette i have and the Pineapple Face 12" to make sure it was as poor as i remember and YES IT WAS...maybe even worse.
PS. If anyone needs a copy of the US 12" for Pineapple Face, i have 2. I'd also like to trade the Cassette Promo of Gun World Porn...only played 2 times and not once all the way through!!!

Hmmmmmm.... harsh words there...It doesn't appear as if anyone is too enthuisiastic about their work then. Not much recommendations by the looks of it. Perhaps I should just stick to adding to my new Order collection.

That goes w/out saying, but I think the Revenge re-release will be a nice set to have. I plan on picking one up.
The set has arrived today (great service from James Nice). Have yet to listen to it properly (and it's my first Revenge purchase!), but I did already find the surprise recording at the end of disc 2. I won't spoil it for any other receivers, but I can confirm that it is NOT a mystery Joy Division cover as was once suggested. Instead, keep those handkerchiefs ready!
Hooky doing his best cringeworthy Voice-Over Man impression for the dedications at the end of disc one was a bit unnecessary, I thought...
That's what I was referring to... but I could have sworn it's at the end of disc 2. Maybe I've got a genuine collector's item? :D
I, too, would rather have had him doing a 15" (that's seconds, not inches) bass riff instead of reading out bleeding liner notes for 2 minutes.

And it was only the other day that someone was saying they masturbated over Moby, over on the Behind Closed Doors forum ! The mind boggles.....

Sorry!! And there was I looking forward to some equally amusing nugget on disc 2...

It's on disc 2 - listening to it now! :)
Oh, and disc 2 also has the track "Hot Nights/Cool City", which is basically Bleachman!

Interesting to read on the sleeve notes how just before the Irvine Meadows gig (which everyone now has the mixer of?!), New Order had a meeting and this was when Barney announced he was off to do his own thing. They then went to the gig in separate cars and got stuck in a traffic jam. Hooky's driver pointed out that it was actually New Order fans causing the jam, but all Hooky could think about was the fact that they'd just, in essence, split up!!
Yeah, concise though it is, I find it a pretty informative little booklet. And it puts that Irvine Meadows show in an entirely different perspective. Do you reckon Bernard's decision to announce his solo project had anything to do with the shattering news about Pete de Freitas?

This sounds like a mix of two separate anecdotes. The traffic jam one stems from the Irvine show in 1986, it was in an NME interview around that time.
Yeah, Tony Wilson always goes on about what a defining moment it was to realise that they were "stuck in their own traffic jam". Maybe Hooky's memory is clouded, poor old geezer...
Got mine today too. It's pretty good, I think. I have all their original releases but it's still well worth-while, especially the disc 2 gems.
Not too keen on "Televive" but "The Wilding" gets going quite nicely. I also don't remember "State of Shock" being as good as it sounded just now. Although I was a little irritated by the fact that the original album is not only out of order (no pun intended) but not even on one disc, actually the sequencing works quite well. Listening to "It's Quiet" and "Run Wild" closing an album doesn't seem so unlikely!
I have to say the real rub for me has always been Hooky's singing. And some of his lyrical clunkers are worse than Barney's: "my way/skyway" (Deadbeat) and "I killed a man with a knife/kept it pure and simple for his kids and his wife" (Bleachman) are particularly bad, but "Slave" and "It's Quiet" have great lyrics.
Is it just me or does "Underworld" sound like UNKLE or something at the start? And if David Holmes had written "Pumpkin" it probably would have been used in some really cool soundtrack by now.
Well, I'm very satisfied, meself. And such a baragin too! Great start to the year, this.
I haven't listened to Revenge for years. They were never my favourite side-project. Great live. But I must say I'm really enjoying the songs again. Pineapple Face, Slave, Big Bang, Deadbeat, State Of Shock and 14K are all corkers.
I had the original on vinyl and on listening to the new CD, some of the (original album) tracks sound in edited or lengthened form? I'll have to give the vinyl a listen.
There's about 15 tracks/mixes I didn't already have - shame on me.
A BIG THUMBS UP ![]()
