I recall the great excitement when the final two tracks from the Genetic session became available, but apart from the full version "In A Lonely Place" (the edit of which appeared on "H&S"), what OTHER studio JD tracks do we think are out there but have so far never surfaced?

None, sadly.

Oh. I thought that there was a version of "She's Lost Control" out there somewhere...:(

It was mentioned in an NME interview with Joy Division at Central Sound Studios (August 79) that Martin Hannett was working on some demos of a new version of She's Lost Control though I think this is the only place it has been mentioned. If you look at the track dates on Substance it gives that for the rerecorded SLC as 7/79, though this is clearly wrong. There may be another version of Ceremony around as Hooky mentions having stuff that 'bootleggers would kill for' in an interview in Sounds in 1990 including a studio version of Ceremony with Ian - presumably not the one on H&S as he only found this shortly before the box set was released...unless he's telling porkies of course!

There are some live tracks that would be wonderful if they appeared, like the possible first performances of Decades, Something Must Break, et al. Yes, some of the more interesting concerts (seizures, riots, etc.) would be interesting to hear. Debbie says they were supposed to have recorded the Bury gig with the riot, but I suppose that recording never survived.

Peter Hook also says in Mick Middles book that were some dub mixes of "Digital" and "Glass" created by Martin Hannett, working alone. Hooky bought Cargo Studios and it changed into Suite 16. When his partner sold his share he also sold all the tapes that were just sitting around, tapes for 50p each, just as blanks. The dub mixes were gone, lost forever. :nonono:

Not necessarily, the "blanks" may have never been taped over. Highly wishful thinking, yes, but stranger things have happened (long lost Beatles tapes turning up in people's lofts, etc.)
