Does anyone remember the pre-show music that was playing before Neworder came on in the 1989 tour w/ the Sugarcubes and PiL? I saw them at Lake Compounce and distinctly remember thumping dance music with the voice (as used in Fine Time) repeating 'Welcome...Welcome...Welcome.' Please tell me I'm not crazy and someone else remembers this.
As of today, I've never heard it released anywhere...
If my memory serves me correctly there was a DJ on the second stage of the tour who travelled as part of the show. I do not remember the music specifically but I know someone who would. Andrew Robinson.

Ahh...'stages.' OK, so the DJ must have sampled or re-created the 'Welcome...' or it was from another song. It did sound exactly like the vocal effect in Fine Time though!
I just remember it being so cool that, 'Wow, New Order even created 'opening music' for their show!' I didn't realize that it was a DJ!

There was definitely a DJ who stood to the left of the stage between the PiL and New Order sets. Don't know who, as I've never been into the whole DJ/House scene.
Speaking of this, I clearly remember in 1993 (Toronto), they did their sound check and they seriously played a song I've never heard before...
Anybody know what they used to play for soundcheck back in 1993? Maybe roadies were messing with the equipment, but it sounded like a full rehearsal.. at the time (1993), Sebastien thought it was the Happy One until we found it the song was the snippets between videos on Substance 89, so it wasn't it.
sounds like "Welcome" by Gino Latino. From 88/89...other lyrics include "house music all night long, work your body all night long" and "my name is gino....latino"...
Hey, thanks. I listened to the Gino Latino song and if there's a raved up version, that could be it! I remember the 'Welcome' vocal more like the voice in Fine Time, but that could just be time playing tricks on me.

i've got the 12" i'm ashamed to admit. the "welcome" part has definitely been put through effects processors and is much deeper than Gino Latino's vocals. Probably the song you're after. The 12" has an instrumental as well with just the Welcome sample.
Hi Paul. I only missed three shows on the whole of the tour which were:
May 04, 1989 Vancouver, BC, CA Queen Elizabeth Theatre (The first stage of the tour beat the crap out of me and I did plan on making the short journey from Seattle but once I settled into those big comfy seats at the airport I slept like a baby for 24 hours then crawled on a plane and went back to Kim where I slept for days. I was well and truly knackered.)

Did they play in Montreal in 1989? Well, we drove all the UP from Toronto and when we arrived we were told the show was not going ahead. I have been trying to confirm this for a very long time with the sad issue being that no one who posts here who actually lives in the city can actually confirm whether they did or they did not.

Just been listening to the Detroit 17-07-89 mixer CD, and the pre-gig music is on it !
It's that "Acieeed" song. The one that repeats "Acieeed" several times to a house beat - can't remember its name.

No, I don't have Lake Compounce.
For the JD set we will use something from Nosferatu, and it will of course be The Vikings for the Order set !
