Are laserdiscs collectible?

Living here in Japan, I sometimes come across New Order laserdiscs. I think there were 4 made here (Pumped, Substance, NO Story, Best of).

I've actually bought the PFD laser and might have the chance to pick up the NO Story 2LD as well, but it ain't very cheap, so I was wondering if there is any collector demand for this format..

Thanks, Peter

I'd have loved to have all those titles on LD, so much better than VHS. I could even play them, I have an LD Player.

I don't know how collectable they are, but they are a nice item. LDs were always expensive which is the primary reason they failed as a format. I can't believe I paid £30+ for some movies. These days I can pick the same films up on DVD for as little as £5.

Buy them if you like them, but only if you want to make a profit off the Sultan of Bling

Pete, how much can you pick them up for over there?

One small sidenote: I think anything can be collectible.

For example, my friend's little brother had a scab collection that he kept in an old cereal box. Then one day the little brother told my friend the collection was missing and asked if he'd seen it. That was when my friend realized why his bowl of bran flakes that morning had tasted so off.

I don't think there's a moral to that story.

...well, they're the best quality versions to make into dvds (as per the original star wars trilogy far east bootlegs)

depthcharge,

I can't remember how much I paid for PFD, maybe $40-45.

The NOStory is going for close to (US)$60. Hmmmm..

Having lived in Sasebo for about 7 years, those prices sound about right. :thumb: As far as collecting them goes...if it's got NO or JD on it...get it! (At least that's my theory)

PFD is out on DVD there now too!! That's where I picked up my PFD, 316 & 511 DVDs before coming back to the states and getting the regions 1 versions. I never saw the substance LD but I did find the VHS.

Anything released by NO is collectible in my book, but I've been donning the anorak for years now... Much to the disdain of the girlfriend, the collection's slowly taking over the house.

If you see any around, especially Substance, let us know. Or consider making yourself a quid on eBay.
