In the NME review of 60 mph the reviewer calls get ready woefully dissapointing, if they thought it was so bad why did they give it an 8?

I guess it wasn't the same writer. The one in charge of the singles this week surely doesn't like the album...

Is it because the reviewer is different? It seems...

Probably a case of getting the guy who wasen't bowled over by the album to do the review after every other writer had praised it to the stars. Same thing happened in Mojo, where the editor said everyone in the office loved Get Ready...except the guy reviewing it. Makes you wonder what they're going for with that...

They always do this..rate the albums and slag off the singles for a cheap joke. Bit pathetic if you ask me.

The NME is toss anyway, I dont think they can handle the fact New Order are still important after all this time. Its not New Orders fault that the new bands to come out of england are crap. I actualy think 60MPH is a New Order classic and one of Barneys best vocal moments.

The fucking NME are absolute cat wankers. In the same issue you get two differing reviews of the same album by two different people. Its very confusing because a review is usually about 3 paragraphs long and after the 2nd paragraph I end up looking at something else because its too much like hard work, so, I rarely read the reviewers name.... so I end up thinking that the same reviewer has egg'd the album on, only to knock it back on page 9.. like what's just happened now.

Get Ready's poo (Kitty)... Getting Things Ready's great (Jeff)... Barney's chicken (Mole)... Hooky's brilliant at bowls (Hatty)...

the fucking New Museum of Xpressives should think before they spiel otherwise a load of horse feed is evacuated and people have to buy it now the melodic maker had vanquished.

mmmm....

:hat:

its a very scathing review isnt it? i may not be too keen on 60mph (or getready for that matter)but i still think its very unfair to say new order have "lost it, and are never going to get it back". particularly in light of the positive things the nmes said about the band over the last few months, an example being the rave review of one of the brixton shows, which is online at www.nme.com if u haven`t yet read it...

Bring back Jack Barron.

Something tells me that this review won't do any good to New Order's commercial success which, so far, is a bit disappointing *IT SEEMS*.

I still think that releasing 60 Mph was a mistake.

Full unanimous agreement with all you disenfranchised NME dissenters - the paper ceased to care ever since Sounds and Melody Maker died their respective deaths. Those were the days, huh? Now the shit NME is suppoed to be the flagcarrier for all Music in Britain (and , it likes to think, THE WORLD) but it's elitism and constant rabid craving for the next big thing on a weekly basis (Blame them for hyping up The Strokes, Starsailor, Elbow, White Stripes, At The Drive In, ....Trail Of Dead.., Godspeed..., Mogwai.. and all those other tedious and worth guitar bands that seem to pour ouut like so much incontinence end product) just grates. The news coverage is pitiful, and their editorial policy of not bothering to review current bands in favour or NEW! HYPED! FLY BY NIGHT! NEW SENSATIONS! and jumping on every bandwaggon possible (name your favourites) just grates. I've stopped buying the paper ever since the cover price started getting extortionate. The paper used to matter, but it doesn't anymore, and sad to relate, the time when I used to look forward to my Wednesdays in order to get the latest updates and fixes of news and intervies from the NME/MelodyMaker are long long gone. In fact, NME is so crap and insubstantial now, I don't even bother checking it out for its content anymore, let alone buy it. Someone should give it a good kick up the arse - start by firing all these young trendy writers and bring back the good old stalwarts trhat made the paper such compulsive reading in the past. (Only Steven Wells survives now - and even he's a self- parody now!)

So, after all that, it's no surprise that they were indifferent to New Order's new single. Mind you, Dele Fadele is still a good writer - most of his reviews are factual and sympathetic and not simply letting his pen or laptop wank off with self-gratifying hyperbole. His review of the New Order gig in a recent issue was a positive and well-informed one, nevertheless. So, is he the only decent unbiased writer the NME have now?

wasnt steven wells one of the "new order/factory are nazis" brigade? im sure i read that somewhere... btw was there really a 'Private Eye' "expose" on factory records` supposed fascist leanings? if so does anyone have a copy of it?

Yeah I remeber Mr Wells being a bit of a twat as well. Basically NME is shite, but I still buy it every week to see if there's anything in it!

You should go one better and do what I do - NICK IT! The adrenaline fix is humungous you know!! (best place to do this - busy mainline railway termini!!)

(btw, I ain't checked out this weeks edition whilst here in Amsterdam - just shows how little I care about that shit now doesn't it?)

.. and the ink gets all over your hands while you walk back from the shop sweating your ass off like i often do when walking / eating / sitting down / jumping around like a maniac to BLT.

I thought the reason they went full colour supplemental format was precisely so the ink DIDN'T rub off. But then again, if it DOES that hardly surprises me - fookin cheapskates! And they charge you one pound thirty for the privilege - soon to go up another 10 or 20p no doubt. Swindlers!

I don't think they have had anything worthwile to say since it was 55p,though I've not bought it since about 1998 never fealt the need to go back and see if I was missing out, after the first couple of months.Anyone hear buy 'The Face' I bought it every month for about 11 years and feel I may now be slightly to old for their demographic,I still pick it up occasionally with M.B.R. and Muzik.

Elsewhere in this weeks NME you can find this:

""I prefer to think of it as 'refreshing' your nose, not ruining it. Its cheaper than a nose job, isn't it?" Peter Hook's grasp of economics is as strong as his health."

What the f**k??

Yeah, quite, and the NME's tedious "DUMBING DOWN" for the masses continues relentlessly apace via their "TXT MSSG" section on the letters page and the bloody annoying RING tones top ten. What next? Top Ten sandwiches from Pret A Manger? Coffee Republic Best Shag Slice? I mean, who cares? Fuck off! :finger:

I like the idea of knicking one for the adrenaline rush, but how fucking embarrassed would you be if you got caught! probably three times more than if it was a porno:lol;
