Joy Division led me to New Order. Then I listened to Age of Consent. After I listened to Age of Consent, I knew I had to own every New Order album ever.

Back in late 1979 or early '80 I was doing a radio show at a college radio station in western Massachusetts. I had started to frequent a local record store that had all the newest import releases. On the recommendation of one of the clerks I bought the 7" single Transmission by Joy Division. I was blown away. I bought the albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer and as they became available, as well as the 7" Love Will Tear Us Apart and She's Lost Control. I played New Order's Ceremony on the radio the evening of the day that it became available in the states. Been a New Order fan ever since.

Pretty much the same story here; though I wasn't a DJ back then, a friend played Transmission for me, and I was hooked. Ceremony, since 1980.
BLT. i had to DJ on a party in 1986 (i was 10! 
) and my sister gave me Brotherhood and recommended to play "the first one of the side b". i was curious because i had never heard of them until then. i went to the party and played it. and the rest is history.... ;)
Just went from Joy Division to New Order, Ceremony, lookin back was obviously the bridge between both bands, it just did'nt feel like it at the time. In fact, me and my mates were never certain NO were gonna be permanent , in some ways we thought they were sortin some unfinished business after Ian and we reckoned it'd be another tragedy if they finished on Ceremony. Remember at the time the band had a well deserved rep for doin the complete opposite of any percieved expectations, so if they'd have said 'fuck it ' it wouldn't have been a shock .
True Faith. Remember the live performance on The Roxy and then TOTP. Substance had just been released.
I distinctly remember Temptation and of course Blue Monday, but '87 opened the flood gates for me. 
My Uncle John constantly played PCL, Low Life and Brotherhood when I was up ma Grans. When he got Substance and I heard TEMPTATION.....Hooky, Line and Sinker!
First heard Temptation in '82 and it didn't really register. Then I heard LWTUA and bought it Oct '83 and BM the following week. I got one of those dodgy Blue Monday 12" s that had the labels reversed. So I got used to The Beach before BM!! Every single/LP was bought on day of release thereafter.
Insight. They never went away after hearing the first JD Peel session. First New Order song I heard was probably Dreams Never End.
True Faith is the first New Order related record I bought (Bright Lights Big City soundtrack actually)
However, out of Sebastien's mixed tape that turned me into a fan, it's evident it was BLT... I knew the song before of course, but I played it, played it, played it.. played it....
It took me several years to get into the darker stuff, but now I like it all, even if I say I don't like Angel Dust, it doesn't mean I don't like it.. over some David Hasseloff songs, I know what I'd pick 
This is a hard one for me to answer...I think I heard several of their songs on the radio (TPK, True Faith, Fine Time) and didn't put it together that they were by the same group immediately!

The least loved and respected ones in the community...State of the Nation and Subculture ! I was at the proper age then I guess. I've probably heard Blue Monday before those, just didn't really pay attention to it. I was actually into JD already. Then over the years I went on to dig deeper. The rest is history.
Ceremony 7"
When I heard the bass intro for the first time (at school back in early '81) I had to know who it was. Turned out it was NO, the band that descended from JD, whom I had heard on Peel and quite enjoyed but without really getting into them. So there you have it. Music was never the same for me again, and this website has re-kindled the flame, er, so to speak. :)
True Faith - summer of 87 on jukebox in school commonroom... had plenty of fun catching up & building my collection. :)
I realized them with Blue Monday sometimes in 1983. I'm a fan since The Perfect Kiss in 1985!
I hate to admit, but I first heard Orgy's cover of BM in 1998 and after, I wanted to hear the original version. So, I did hear it and liked it, although not until I heard Crystal did I buy anything.
Ceremony, 1999. I'd got Substance for my birthday and as soon as this came spinning through my speakers I thought "Oh my God, what the hell is this?" I then picked up most of the albums and the rest is history.
I was a JD fan. I saw NO live early on and was very disappointed. Then I heard Blue Monday. I haven't stopped dancing since (mentally nowadays!)
true faith in 1987. it was the first one i knew was by new order. although in reality it was blue monday, which i had already been enjoying for about a year without knowing who it was by.
TPK...after hearing it for the 2nd time on local college radio (the 12" version no less) I finally had the guts to call and find out who it was...
It was the first vinyl I ever bought...and still one of the best songs ever.
mine was temptation '86. i was 15, and i downloaded it by mistake haha. i was looking for heaven 17's temptation, but found new order's instead.
the best mistake i've ever done in my life :D i own all their albums, got loads of vinyl singles and dvds e.t.c. hehe :D
i think it was bizzare love triangle. i also heard blue monday right around the same time, so i guess those 2 songs got me into new order.
BLT got me to start listening to New Order, Temptation continued my interest, and True Faith made me a permanent fan
Now it is coming back. It was not Blue Monday, rather, it was The Beach. I loaned my tape player to someone and they returned it with a tape in it. They recorded The Beach froma college radion station and fortunately the DJ, Bob Dorr of Bobby's Blue Band fame (suck) named the track and artist. Had to been the summer of 83 because I remember said tape player being stolen a few months later. It was not until the following sumer that I made a major vinyl attack-I bought the 12' of Temptation, Thieves Like US, FACTUS 8 and Movement in one fell swoop. But it was not until I was listening to TPK 12' on a shitty car stereo while smoking a fatty with a chick that I REALLY fell in love with NO. Low Life was purchased next as well as PC&L.
Blue Monday (sounds cliched, but it's true)...that was fucking awesome the first time I heard it after discovering JD first and wondering what the guys did after Ian died

I knew NO because I'm Cure fan and heard they listened to Joy Division/NO (though Robert Smith seemed to like JD more).
I remember hearing "Shellshock" on the radio a lot aged about 12 or 13. I really liked that (oh, the shame) and I don't really understand why it wasn't a bigger hit as it must have a lot of airplay on the likes of Gary Davies and Steve Wright on fabulous Radio 1...
I loved True Faith but at that time I only bought albums, not singles. The first one I bought was "Fine Time" on 7" in December 88 (aged 15) and once I got Technique I had to get everything.
I got into Joy Division in 1989 when I broke my leg and was off school. A mate of mine lent me some magazines (not that kind!) to keep away the boredom and one of them was a car magazine with a music reviews page (WTF?). It had a review of Substance 1977-1980 and I bought that on LP on the strength of the review alone, never having heard them. I took me a little while to get into JD but once I did I was totally blown away. I had to go back a couple of months later and get the fucking cassette too, since it had loads of extra tracks!

It would be the cover of "turn the heater on" from the peel sessions record. A girlfriend made me a mixed tape that included "she's lost control" that I was obsessed with, that was in 84'. In my little backwoods town, getting information on any bands other than van halen was pretty tough in 84', so I just listened to She's lost... for about 3 months and eventually found out the story, at which point I picked up the peel record for a buck.
Transmission/She's Lost Control from 'Something Else' - I'd heard Joy Division on John Peel's program without really taking much notice, but actually seeing the band performing made a huge impression. Unfortunately unlike someone I knew at school I didn't go and see the band at the Nashville Rooms the following weekend!
It's hard to pin down one particular song... Of course it'd have to be that one about a ship on a harbour and how the lead singer would be so much better off if it weren't for this very annoying lover-nuisance of his... 
But then again, it was hearing the likes of The perfect kiss, Bizarre love triangle and mostly Shellshock (that one REALLY blew my mind the first time I heard it) that made me get ever more ineterested, and I guess it'd be fairer to say that Technique really made me a fan, because it was after I got it that I realised I had to get everything else by them. :D
As for JD, I found out I knew Love will tear us apart from the radio, though it'd never dawned on me it was them, and to be honest I was a bit scared the first time I heard She's lost control! 
But it was right around the time I was learning how to play and stuff, so it was really appealing as they turned out to be so easy... 
But it's impossible not to be moved by Ian's lyrics. And I got torn between the rawness of Interzone and the touching beauty of Atmosphere.

You've nailed it in one sentence. The only band who can switch like that in the space of three minutes and not make it sound like an effort.
Borrowed Substance off a mate in the year of its release and was instantly hooked, that little continous play switch on my walkman.. well it was set to 'on' and the tape wound on repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat...
Dont ask me which song, i was literally blown away by the whole damn album!!

Very unlucky, since this performance is IMHO the most incredible live document of both JD and NO by some distance... Not a single track from this gig gets skipped over by me, even though I might skip through some of their equivalent studio incarnations (Atrocity Exhibition in particular). Would give my right ball to have the chance to have witnessed this in the flesh.
The first song I connected with New Order was True Faith, around 1988. I got Substance, fell in love with Ceremony, and I've been hooked ever since. 
(TF was a great video, too, back in the day when music video channels in the states actually played music videos... Not that I'm bitter...)
I was getting rides in High School by a bunch of New Wavers and they used to play True Faith. I loved that song then and now!
I'd love to say it was Ceremony, but back then I was six years old and in Kindergarten, so I wasn't really all that developed, or empowered in terms of musical listening choices. It was essentially limited to whatever my brother and/or mom liked, some Queen here, some Abba there, and some Blondie and snuck in Go Go's material.
Oddly I have vague memories of hearing Love Will Tear Us Apart on the radio when I was five, whether that's an accurate memory or not is open to question. Anyway's the first New Order song I remember hearing is True Faith in 1987, but back then I wasn't open to it, neither was I too Blue Monday 1988, the next song I heard, which was good enough to make the cut on a mixed tape I made but go no further than that.
It was in '89 that a DJ in the bay area touted New Order on a radio tape I'd made for a trip, refering to an album as his all time favorite after the song had played (I'd gotten the chatter, but not the song), immediately following that I picked up Substance, thought it was interesting but still wasn't won over (I was bored by the versions of Confusion, and Thieves on it, Confusion would remain low, but Thieves would later become an all time favorite). The following winter I heard BLT in it's original form and was immediately won over, w/in a few months I'd buy half their albums, and the other half the following summer.
Now if only I could remember so well what my stupid user name and pass word were I wouldn't have had to set up a new account this past week. What an odd selective memory.
I was just gettin' into this cool dance music that was being played downtown in a club called Skoochies, when a friend of mine comes over with a 12" single in a sleeve that looks like a floppy disc...

Blue Monday. Brother had it on a mix tape. When I was about 14 (1993) I found his 12" new order collection and the rest is history...
I told you all before it was a girl that got me into New Order. Although we did play the Subculture 12 inch alot then. Still like that version unlike most here.
been a fan since early joy div so its just been a continuation for me. the track that new order really won me over with though is the peel session of I.C.B. totally blew me away and still does.
A rainy day looong time ago with a feeling of something being lost. Walked into a recordshop and picked up PCL because of the sleeve. Listening to Age of Consent and I knew 'I've lost you, I've lost you ...'.

Well, like many of you it was Blue Monday and The Beach, but I only knew the name of the band and not the name of the songs. It was a tape I borrowed from my older brother and he couldn't remember the names(I think this was in 1985).
So...I went shopping. Bought PC&L, liked it but was disappointed that they weren't on the LP. So I kept buying their albums trying to find it. Ended up getting Movement and Lowlife, Thieves Like Us/Murder 12" before finally finding the Blue Monday/The Beach 12".
I've listened to them almost continuously since 84 or 85 but they spent a lot of time on my shelf for the last year. Now they share equal time with my other love, Lacuna Coil (I know, totally different type of music...)
In 1987 (best year in music) I was 14 and I saw the video of True Faith, recorded the song on a tape and played it a lot, though I was still busy with The Smiths' and Depeche Mode's records. In 1988 I heard Twenty Four Hours live from Still on the radio and I was totally blown away. Joy Division became instantly my favourite band. In the following months I started listening to New Order records though at first I thought they were less good than JD (even if I started enjoying Movement because it sounded relatively similar), until one day the keyboards of Blue Monday popped into my sick mind while walking outside, came back home, played Substance again and realised how great New Order are. Everything's Gone Green, Perfect Kiss etc., everything was clear then and started loving all the albums. New Order were finally as good as Joy Division, or better, Joy Division evolving. So though True Faith started it all and Twenty Four Hours made me a Joy Division fan, I'd say Blue Monday finally made me a New Order fan.
