What song made you a New Order fan?

Very unlucky, since this performance is IMHO the most incredible live document of both JD and NO by some distance... Not a single track from this gig gets skipped over by me, even though I might skip through some of their equivalent studio incarnations (Atrocity Exhibition in particular). Would give my right ball to have the chance to have witnessed this in the flesh.

The first song I connected with New Order was True Faith, around 1988. I got Substance, fell in love with Ceremony, and I've been hooked ever since. (TF was a great video, too, back in the day when music video channels in the states actually played music videos... Not that I'm bitter...)

I was getting rides in High School by a bunch of New Wavers and they used to play True Faith. I loved that song then and now!

I'd love to say it was Ceremony, but back then I was six years old and in Kindergarten, so I wasn't really all that developed, or empowered in terms of musical listening choices. It was essentially limited to whatever my brother and/or mom liked, some Queen here, some Abba there, and some Blondie and snuck in Go Go's material.

Oddly I have vague memories of hearing Love Will Tear Us Apart on the radio when I was five, whether that's an accurate memory or not is open to question. Anyway's the first New Order song I remember hearing is True Faith in 1987, but back then I wasn't open to it, neither was I too Blue Monday 1988, the next song I heard, which was good enough to make the cut on a mixed tape I made but go no further than that.

It was in '89 that a DJ in the bay area touted New Order on a radio tape I'd made for a trip, refering to an album as his all time favorite after the song had played (I'd gotten the chatter, but not the song), immediately following that I picked up Substance, thought it was interesting but still wasn't won over (I was bored by the versions of Confusion, and Thieves on it, Confusion would remain low, but Thieves would later become an all time favorite). The following winter I heard BLT in it's original form and was immediately won over, w/in a few months I'd buy half their albums, and the other half the following summer.

Now if only I could remember so well what my stupid user name and pass word were I wouldn't have had to set up a new account this past week. What an odd selective memory.

I was just gettin' into this cool dance music that was being played downtown in a club called Skoochies, when a friend of mine comes over with a 12" single in a sleeve that looks like a floppy disc...

P C & L is a great album. Your Silent Face is such a brilliant song.

Heard True Faith 94 a couple of times on Radio 1, bought the best of & then was hooked!

Blue Monday. Brother had it on a mix tape. When I was about 14 (1993) I found his 12" new order collection and the rest is history...

I told you all before it was a girl that got me into New Order. Although we did play the Subculture 12 inch alot then. Still like that version unlike most here.

been a fan since early joy div so its just been a continuation for me. the track that new order really won me over with though is the peel session of I.C.B. totally blew me away and still does.

A rainy day looong time ago with a feeling of something being lost. Walked into a recordshop and picked up PCL because of the sleeve. Listening to Age of Consent and I knew 'I've lost you, I've lost you ...'.

Well, like many of you it was Blue Monday and The Beach, but I only knew the name of the band and not the name of the songs. It was a tape I borrowed from my older brother and he couldn't remember the names(I think this was in 1985).

So...I went shopping. Bought PC&L, liked it but was disappointed that they weren't on the LP. So I kept buying their albums trying to find it. Ended up getting Movement and Lowlife, Thieves Like Us/Murder 12" before finally finding the Blue Monday/The Beach 12".

I've listened to them almost continuously since 84 or 85 but they spent a lot of time on my shelf for the last year. Now they share equal time with my other love, Lacuna Coil (I know, totally different type of music...)

In 1987 (best year in music) I was 14 and I saw the video of True Faith, recorded the song on a tape and played it a lot, though I was still busy with The Smiths' and Depeche Mode's records. In 1988 I heard Twenty Four Hours live from Still on the radio and I was totally blown away. Joy Division became instantly my favourite band. In the following months I started listening to New Order records though at first I thought they were less good than JD (even if I started enjoying Movement because it sounded relatively similar), until one day the keyboards of Blue Monday popped into my sick mind while walking outside, came back home, played Substance again and realised how great New Order are. Everything's Gone Green, Perfect Kiss etc., everything was clear then and started loving all the albums. New Order were finally as good as Joy Division, or better, Joy Division evolving. So though True Faith started it all and Twenty Four Hours made me a Joy Division fan, I'd say Blue Monday finally made me a New Order fan.
