How bizarre..
In today's NO interview in 'Les Inrockuptibles', I read Barney saying he was doing paintings before doing music! I didn't know that. Has anyone seen any of his masterpieces?

I did hear that one of his early works was once exhibited alongside a Peter saville exhibition back in 1995. If you looked closely at it (it was a pen sketch) you couldn't discern anything really, so you ould say in that respect that it was abstract. However, from a distance you could clearly see that he'd actually drawn around his own left hand...

But he wasn't for a very long time, based on how young he was when he started in Joy Division.

A privileged position nonetheless to work on Dangermouse, or Donnie Murdo as he was known to family of 5 who speak Gaelic in Scotland.
This is not a painting but it was Barney's idea of using on the cover of "Unknown Pleasures" a graph of the power emitted by the Pulsar CP 1919. He found it on the page 111 of The Cambridge Encyclopedia Of Astronomy. Saville picked the last 80 of 100 pulses and reversed the black and white colours.

if so, sorry love, but i was not impressed. 
it looked a bit like weimar art on acid. disturbing.

I saw another "Back to Mine" CD with similair artwork, so I doubt it. I think it was the one for the band Morcheeba.
