Theres always a chance. John Frusciate played with them in 2002 (didnt he play on the moby/new order new dawn fades) and last time they were in manchester he mentioned them, not that the kids knew who they were.

Support at that gig is likely to be franz ferdinand, muse, janes addiction and queens of the stone age. But its the first gig at the stadium so they should really get a manc band in.

So a chance, not a big chance, but a chance.

....not forgetting they supported the Peppers at Landsdowne Road..Dublin 2002...

Indeed. I'm sure I can get meself to the Reading Festival, and back, quite safe and sound.

What year are they due to play there again? 2007?

Given that Reading is now geared towards 14 year olds in Slipknot hoodies, I'm guessing Glastonbury is a more likely festival option - especially given that they've been rumoured to be playng there the last three years on the trot (plus they get on TV, which is always good free promotion).

If they do any, definitely planning to do at least one U.S. date next time round. Amd agree with Mr Paradise - Manc Academy would be an amazing place to catch 'em!!!

The concern about Glastonbury is that they could be added to that bill after the tickets have gone on sale (and these days they sell out in 24hrs). I read somewhere that Eavis wants tickets personalised this year, so that anyone buying them has their name stamped on, then they'll have to prove at the gates they are who they say they are. So, would be people be prepared to buy an advance ticket on the off chance that New Order 'might' play? I certainly wouldn't. And you've then got no hope of buying a tout ticket either (unless you've got the same name as the tout!!!). .

Well, exactly, which is why I'm hoping they DON'T play Glasto - you also, of course, have to fork out for a three day ticket, and I'm afraid my camping-in-Somerset days (fun as they were) are behind me now. But it is still the most prestigous UK festival, and they'd command a big fee so I can see 'em doing it regardless of us sorry punters. And as Al says, they sell out in 24 hours, and touts double the face value of tickets overnight.

Ouch.

I'm gonna see if we can get on the bill there anyway, on one of the early slots on the backwoods stage, have one or two contacts who may be able to swing things. If we can get in that way, we will of course need a road crew ;)

Given Bernard's ongoing reluctance to play live, surely he'll only be coerced back on stage when they have a new record to promote? And with scant details of any new music about, surely the album's still a fair way off and therefore so are any live shows?

Absolutely. But there is hope that there may be an appearance at one of the UK or European festivals this summer, regardless of how far they've got with recording the next album. Can't ever see them doing a tour again, maybe isolated dates where the money is good.

From my point of view, this is just a bit of idle banter while the Joiner is knockin together a new kitchen. However it's been nice to be reminded of favourite venues and not so favourite , after all, Barneys Head topiary man and Hookeys butler have been known to surf these pages and they may pass on a few comments ... Then again they may not want to upset the applecart, jobs being hard to come by in leafy Cheshire. Anyway Hooky mentioned he'd like to see Goonawindy , so ya never know Mal out of Cab Voltaire might book em :D

tickets this year for glasto are £114 i believe, limited to 2 per person with checks to make sure you don't get more than one lot.

last tour of UK missed Scotland & one o fthe manchester dates, aiming to do better this time, though expect will most likely be festival appearances...

Perhaps Hooky can do an Orbital? I think it was Nick King that said the younger brother is going to have to DJ(!) their latest album to get it aired, cos the older brother's going backpacking round your side of the world for a year instead and won't be playing live!

Then again, New Order would of course have to record some new material for Hooky to DJ out, so therein lies the flaw in me plan.

Call me a pessimist but I can't see them appearing at any point this year. This time three years ago half of us already had Crystal and 60mph, we all knew the album was all but finished, and I think the Moby support rumours had perhaps started already? We haven't even had the slighest inkling of a rumour for a good 12months now, so until the rumours actually start, we probably won't get anything concrete for a good 6-12months after that!

Someone, please, start a rumour! (Make it tangible though!).

Yeah, I doubt whether we'll see a live performance of any kind this year - Al's right, if a new album was imminent (and it takes absolutely ages to finish production/sleeve design/organise venues for tours/make videos/etc), then we would have heard about it by now...

I'm guessing that there'll be a new album in 2005 followed by a mini-tour - possibly worldwide?

Of course, I hope to be wrong on all counts!

Talking of which, is anybody going to see Hybrid live in March? Presumably Hooky will be joining them?
