Twas Januaary 1989 when John & Lorraine told me they had got me a ticket to see New Order at the NEC in March, I was already well into the Order at the tender age of 14. I always scoured the newsagents evry Wednesday for just a glimpse of the words New Order on the front of Sounds, MM or the NME. I think it was my birthday week, when New Order were in the NME, it was a 4 page interview, talking about Gmex 88 and the up and coming tour, and I'm sure Barney referred that he was like a satellite picking up people's thoughts....that was how he wrote songs
This ideal of collecting everything with New Order in it continues to this day, I even had to get Rocket Mick to send me the Big Issue down from Manchester in 2001, cos New Order were on the front, and it was only available in the North! I have hundreds of cuttings safely stored away in a box, every now and then I go through the interviews. Touched indeedy
I remember it well. Another great interview. Bernard; "it's like the music doesn't belong to me - it just comes to me like I've got an aerial in my brain."
This is taken from the 3 December '88 interview Bernard did for MM, where he was on the cover. (The first Technique promotional interview).
The NME article featured the whole band and was in two parts - 'Perfecting The Technique', 28 January - 4 February '89.
Sounds seemed to fare less well in the poaching New Order stakes, but I have no bad words to say against them, 'cos they interviewed me for an article of NO fans, and promoted Paradise, 8 December '90.
