how much does your average top 50 CD go for in the UK & US, because i get teh feeling we are getting ripped here in aus. For example i paid about 9.5 pounds or 13 US dollars for Get Ready. Sorry this is kind of off topic.
How much does a CD cost?

My vinyl set me back £13.00 it usually costs about £17.00 for an album on vinyl but New Order managed to squueze it all on one slab.
Mitch, just check the prices on sites like hmv.co.uk or cdnow.com, amazon.com, etc, etc.. You'll see that most UK new releases seem to go for around 13 quid, although from living there I remember you can pick them up for around 10 at the right places. The US and Canada are definitely cheaper.. You have to put everything in context though- factor in rates of pay, costs of living, etc.. In Australia we're in the middle-upper price bracket and the primary reason is the government trying to protect the local music industry.
We're not really getting ripped off- by the time you factor postage in, buying new music overseas often doesn't save you much. I can however recommend shopping around for many DVD titles overseas- I just picked up The Simpsons Series One and saved a whopping AUD $20 by buying from Canada. Gotta have the DVD region 0 mod though...
Hope that helped.
I paid about $13 US dollars for GR, they had it on sale. Usually cds run about $11-17, depending on obscurity ($11-14) or noteriety ($15-17), not counting double- or triple-discs sets. I avoid the malls because everything there is over priced. Best deal I ever got on a un-used cd: $3.00 for Transformer at Circuit City
just do what i do: nick your friends' copies of cds you want until they're on sale for an affordable price. unfortunately this doesn't really work for me with new order cds as apparently they're 'sad'. (though to be fair, the opinion of someone who likes slipknot is not worth bothering with)
I bought Get Ready for 16$ CDN, to my best knowledge, the aussie $ is pretty similar to the canadian one.
So basically, 9.92$ US... with the current exchange rate...
I used to buy CDs from US from the net 5 years ago ( check Goldmine magazine ) when the exchange was good and US CDs cheap & full of extra tracks...even the Midnight Oil live CD is holographic for US issue... UK is still expensive for CDs though. I was there 6 months ago on a trip and was hoping to bring stacks load home...but turned out pretty disappointing, bad exchange and in UK it's big deal to have bargains like 6.99pounds per CD!! That's normal Aussie's price!! I must admit I was extremely to have found Monaco's MONACO in Glasgow for only 9.99pounds....here HMV Sydney sells it for $52.95 !!!!

And let us never forget, Sarah, along with the Strokes, SlapNut were the twats who helped stop New Order from going Top 3 with "Get Ready". A sad week indeed.
they'll pay, goddammit they'll pay! and after hearing iowa at a rock club i despair of the cd-buying population of the world. my god what a pile of shite! ok i'll stop my mad ranting now.
Men hiding behind grotesque masks singing about murder and death....I'm sorry, but that's what's so great about the Sex Pistols and Joy Division, they never hid behind masks to unload their fears and insecurities. You can't hide from the world while you're telling them how you feel. It's doesn't work that way. Cut the cartoon shit and try and learn to play something other than Sabbath riffs, boys of Slipknot.

I find Slipknot rather amusing myself, they always cheer me up whenever they appear, to be quite truthful with you, I don't think they take themselves very seriously at all, apparently contained in their lyrics are references to strawberry jam, and playing with fairies in the garden..HONESTLY!!!

Cheers Seb, prices here are excellent, just a pity there are only limited varieties.
Actually boys and girls, you are all paying way too much for your discs. I only pay for New Order cds, cuz I know Barney and Hooky need beer money, and the other two need money for Grace...but the rest of my collection has come via the five fingered discount, that's right kids, just go down to the local store and shoplift anything you might need. Steal it even...this way you have plenty of fundage left for the important things in life...like 317 pounds of pot and a couple of cases of beer....

I used to do it quite a lot here you know, at the HMV's of this land - overpriced shite place that is, only good when they have the odd BIG sales where you can - if you can fight yer way round the horrid fetid stinking Reebok/Rockport/Ellesse/Nike/Spunko - clad teenage filth to get at the racks - pick up some real goodies AND pay what is a pittance in comparison for them: some recent examples of my great eclectic finds thru this unexpected avenue: (all £4.99 or less) Specials - Specials, Madness - Step Beyond/Absolutely , Teardrop Explodes - Kilimanjaro, Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain, Pixies - Trompe Le Monde, Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy, Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic, Orbital - Green CD, Kenickie - Get In, OMD - Navigation, Saint Etienne - Tiger Bay (European Edition), ABC - Beauty Stab, Chic - C'est Chic, Charlie Mingus - Heavenly Blue Smoke, Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Broadcasting From Home, Depeche Mode - Black Celebration, Smiths - Louder Than Bombs, Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat, Fatback Band - Keep on Stepping (Euro reissue), Funkadelic - Ultimate Funkadelic, Siouxsie and the Banshees - Looking Glass, Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique.
Thing is, as mentioned earlier somewhere else, I certainly wouldn't advocate stealing as a thing in itself - only from rich fat capitalist bastard emporiums such as HMV. But I don't do it any more now. The attraction has long gone. I'm honest and law abiding now ( ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ) and like, for example with the NME, I wouldn't even wipe my arse on it, let alone pick it up and steal it anymore!
Yes, I'm sorry, stealing is bad, and what would you do with 317 pounds (how many kilos is that?) of marijuana? So ignore what I said earlier...i am an evil  little man!!!!
