Had to point out to a heavy metal fan of a mate of mine that not every New Order song is like Blue Monday. They can be rocky, poppy and a few ballards. This got me thinking as to which NO slowie was my favorite. Well, then it all came back to me, it has to be 1963 as I remember playing when i lost my cherry. Although I think song does last more than 10 seconds!!!

i hadn't counted to be honest
If we're discounting LMA we're not left with much to choose from are we?
Depends on what you call a slowie. As it is when it was certainly isn't as it really speeds up towards the end.
I don't really see 'Lonesome Tonight' and 'Leave Me Alone' as true slowies...
'All Day Long', 'Your Silent Face', 'Every Little Counts' : those are real slowies, IMO.

yea i cant argue its a bit of both but i believe itz all about how you interpret a song personally. Even with the fast guitars and ultimate crescendo at the end of AIIWIW it still to me retains an essence of a "slowie" it has a lot to do with Barneys sort of pleading voice, but also as the song to me seems to start off quite measured and calm - but ends up almost desperatly fast it has elements of the emotions that a slowie gives....
but for pure undiluted sloweness i'd say "every little counts" :)
IMO (the ultimate get out clause!) ;)
'All Day Long' not slow ?!
And I think I was proving anal-retentive on the slowie subject...
It's slower than Vicious Streak I'd say...
seeing as NO have adopted it in most of their recent live performances in the last few years, what about Atmosphere?
How come no-one has so far mentioned Run Wild? Now that is just a fabulous and beautiful piece of music
I think you're right about the bpm's of VS and ADL being similar Buster but the drums and the crescendo at the end make All Day Long seem faster. I was wondering when Run Wild would make an appearance. I keep trying to like RW but those FUCKING AWFUL LYRICS hold me ten paces back. I do like the line about "all those stupid people" but Jesus and Jehova in the same song?
The Andrea Mix of Blue Monday is nice and slow!
Even if it speeds up a little, to me, the crescendo at the end of ADL is more in power of the instrumentation than in its speed...
Lonesome tonight, if I had to make a choice.
Defo a slowie, sort of song which Kills Audience Participation, if you not what I mean! Quite a few Order songs like that - All Day Long, Thieves, 1963, Elegia, Leave Me Alone, KW1, We All Stand, Every Little Counts, Ruined In A Day. Not really sure where I stand on AIIWIW, but I guess it's a slowie, as it's a bit of a listen-along-to song, rather than a jump-along-to song, IMHO.
Can anyone remember where it was Hooky fucked up the start to Leave Me Alone by playing it on the wrong string, twice, then improvising for the first few bars, so that everyone thought it was a new song until Gillian's guitar kicked in ? Probably around 1984 but I can't put my finger on it. Anyone ?
