A: If I listened long enough I'd hear it, a string would give. B: Your harp? What's all this about a harp? A: I once had a little harp. Be still and let me listen. B: How long are you going to stay like that? A: I can stay for hours listening to all the sounds. (They listen) B: What sounds? A: I don't know what they are. (Samuel Beckett; Rough For Theatre I)

This play reminds me of the protagonist in Herzog's film infamously linked to Curtis. I have remained silent for several years but the more I read the posts, topics, threads, whatever, the more crestfallen one gets. Go listen to the music - don't pick and pock and peck like vultures - pretending you SHARE the music. Dotting every i to death. And before you say - oh we all have something in common because we like JD - that's crap. Wake up and use the music - don't strip it away until you have nothing. Deconstructing Ian Curtis? Yeah - WHAT DOES IAN'S SOUL LOOK LIKE? Who cares? I don't.

Do pass the crack for others to share, my good man.

For once in my life, I am speechless!!!!!

It is actually a valid point, once you get through the art-fart veneer in which it was shrouded. Just listen to the music, forget the myth, the legend, the writers, the times. Enjoy what you hear, leave it at that.

Hey we could almost start our own Canberra chapter of NOOL here. There are at least 2 others from Canberra who post here.

Anyway, I largely agree with you. It is easy to overanalyse JD & IC. As the band and especially Barney have repeatedly stated: The weren't serious (depressed) people, they liked to have fun get pissed etc.

I thought I was the only truly mental person round here.

listen to Denial - "Soul" comes up again. I'm actually creating a paradox here because in order for me to express an opinion I need to analyse and give examples- in a sense, raping the music to justify my position. Moreover, didn't the band themselves feel they were "prostitutes" of the music industry? Slowly being suffocated of their freedom to express? Compromising? Who cares. Listen to the music and when you've got a clear picture of what Ian's soul looks like - tell no-one. Of course, that doesn't mean to say say nothing... oh shit... alright I'll have another line.

Wait - SOUL has come to me again -

"I'll find my soul as I walk home" - TEMPTATION.

Oh it's the first time... five bucks to root Ian - the uncompromising virgin. Any other bidders? Wake up.

Never been that way inclined mate, but I'm sure there are a few who might take up this very kind offer.

That's my point - you speak as though he's alive - let him rest eh?

Stop looking for avenues that are f.cked in your life to correspond to that of The Late Ian.

It's better to talk about him rather than keeping quiet and letting him become forgotten

Funny, but looking through this thread, I thought that this was what you were trying to do?

I'm sure your intentions are noble, but it does sound like you're trying to defend the honour of a bloke who died nigh on 24 years ago, on the other side of the world, that's all. As if you're somehow in the know, and others are not. It sounds like you're taking this personally, but then claiming you're not. What even actually prompted you to start this thread in the first instance? I know a lot of people here speak a lot of sh1te about Curtis ... but then, I thought Julio was banned these days?!

Greg, I think you'll find that - by and large - the attitude round here to Mr Curtis is that (a) he wasn't a very happy chappy, and (b) he was one quarter of a group that made some wonderful music. 'Owt else is just projection/speculation.

:uhoh: Sorry. As I mentioned earlier the paradox is inevitable.

Ok.

A sad tale a last time told:

When you've got Ian's soul can you wrap it up and mail it. Even better, when you have grasped the substance, essence, of JD NO can you bottle that too.

I'm sure NO are laughing at this site now. DO they care about it? Really? Gee! Wake up.

Watching forever?

No.

Listen to the music. Stop rooting it.

I think I get what you're saying (let Ian rest, the music's been discussed and kept from gathering dust for twenty-odd years, we're just keeping the myth of Ian alive), but you come off sort of counter-productive (mocking this forum for talking about Ian, but you yourself are talking about Ian yourself. Get what I'm saying? 'Cause I'm not sure I am...)

Anyway, don't be a stranger :cowboy:

Look Greg, this has to stop. Posting this stuff on here is not going to make me come back to you. You had your chance and you broke my heart (as well as a few other things), now leave me alone!

I haven't touched Drugs for over 2 years, but this Greg bloke is quickly changing my mind on this subject:nod:

I post awful crap when I'm pished, but this thread is takes the proverbial biscuit. What are you on Gregory?

Pictur me and then you'll start watching:lol:
