Is it just me, or are they weirdly "bigger" now than they were before the split? Don't think they sold out four nights at Brixton even at their early 90s commercial peak. And as for that 1990 Victoria Hall gig in Stoke - correct me if my memory is fuzzy, but wasn't it only about two-thirds full, Tim?

Yeah, that's about right. Front was packed as per usual, but there was space out back. We sat upstairs for Barkmarket the support, and moved down just before the behind the curtains Cecilia Ann. Still a lot more there than for the Order seven years previous !
They are a lot bigger these days - reputations and absence are great sales gimmicks, unless you are the Bunnymen !
They've beccome a bit of a legend over the years. Funny thing this massive attention...I saw Frank Black just two months ago perform in front of 300 people in my home town. He's been adding more Pixies tracks to the set over the last few years. So I guess this reunion was just a matter of time. And in case you're wondering: yes...he can still do the scream :D

I think it's a case of so many people (critics and bands both) citing them as an influence that it's assumed they must've been wildly popular. I saw them several times back in the day and I can remember at least two of those occasions just going on the spur of the moment and buying a ticket 30 minutes before the show. And one of those was in Boston on the Trompe le Monde tour which was like a homecoming gig. The other was at the Fillmore in SF with the Happy Mondays opening (it was either the first or second Mondays gig in the US). Bez had to leave the stage a couple of times to barf during the set as I recall.
