Indeed!

To be honest, the package that it would take to support the load we're using is near 200$/month...

I know a libertarian like me should not be proposing new taxes but what about a "Cure Thread Levy" Everytime someone mentions the Cure has to pay say 1 quid, then 2 quid for Barry manilow and 5 for Depish .

You forgot Hasselhoff and Yanni...or would that unfairly put the levy burden on one person? ;)

His sports show that airs on Thursdays in the North West gives out an e-mail contact address for the debate. I'm sure you could hijack it to use to contact him. I can't recall the exact address of the top of my head but can post it here on Fiday.

Thanks.

I know it's symbolic, but I'm sure many people would love to have a FAC number for the album and EP ;)

To be fair, I haven't mentioned either for quite a while now....until now!

Hasselhoff! :jump: (need a :slow-motion running: smilie ) Yanni! :computer2: (need a :Greek playing piano: smilie)

Anyway, as per the site, I think as long as I get to keep posting pictures of sheep, I'll be alright with whatever else goes on here :evil4:

Aaargghh!!! Here in Scotland we don't even get goals extra in the wee small hours. Stoke on their best run in 57 years, and I'm taunted by live terrestrial footy every weekend (Motherwll vs Hearts!!!! the Dundee derby!!!!!!Could I give a toss???????!????!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!)

Presumably that's 9 quid you owe the site for that post then Budvar? :evil4:

Perhaps there is a spider crawling around downloading complete copies of the site?

On my insignificant Geocities site I get messages sometimes that I've passed the 1GB limit. Heck, if I have more than 5 visitors per day I'd be surprised... Of course, it could be their way to sell me premium service...

Could be search engines indeed, I'll have to keep them to scan the forums (imaging the amount of messages they have to scan!) by putting a robots.txt on the website..

You may be onto something here. It'd be good if all forum content be kept away from search engines, given that it is always taken out of context by finding isolated messages on a search engine (and none of anyone's business who is not a part of this community).

Sure thing is, I didn't get any "overuse of bandwidth" message today :thumb:

That's a good start...

So if the bandwidth % is lower today can we expect the Media files back up anytime soon? Or are they still going to be hosted on another site?

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: Muy bueno!!!

But the "Gays and Goths Tax"* surely needs to be approved first.

Logic ? If the media files disappear then the bandwidth drops, that would suggest that it was people coming on here and lifting the media files that was the cause of the bandwidth problem. So they stay offline. There's always soulseek, or actually buying the fucking records.

I was speaking more of the files that aren't available on any Video or reccord such as many of the Cover versions and videos.

Hopefully they will be moved to another site.

They are going to be hosted somewhere else, probably from my home, it will be completely invisible to everyone...

Unless of course I notice that I can't use my internet connection because it's too slow ;)

A very big thank to Sam (The Happy One) for lending us drive space to host the media files...

So I should be doing what I need to do tonight, and those damned files will be back online I guess this week-end (depends of the upload speed!)

I just took a look at the source sent from this forum page and have some suggestions (please ignore this post if you already know this):

  1. Viewstate is turned on. Not sure how much your site requires this, but Viewstate can get pretty large in ASPX pages. It took up 16.9K of the 44.9K of html sent to my browser.

  2. There's a lot of white space sent. All of the spaces and tabs used to format the html are only useful when debugging. They can be removed without changing the look of the page. I see Visual Studio was used to create the site, and it is notorious for reformatting your aspx source. You would have to edit the aspx pages outside of vs.net to make the changes stick. But then it reformats them as soon as you need to make a change to the code-behind...very frustrating.

  3. The .js and .css files can also have a lot of white space removed without causing harm.

I think there are programs out there that can reduce the size of gifs without sacrificing quality (much).

Anyway, the company I work for has to deal with slow network speeds, so we have to worry about how fast the pages display. Even in a fast office network viewstate was a killer on one page I did (though it is needed for some things).

Hope this helps!

Thanks for a great site!

EDIT: I just looked at the source for the thread list and the page sent was 124K, viewstate was 56k. So about 40% of your bandwidth for the aspx pages is viewstate. Definitely worth checking out...

I have to admit , i usually visit the World In Motion site more, but this site does look more professional, more fun and most of all seems to have much more people actually writing in the forums!!:thumb:
