while in NY i unexpectedly passed the Ukrainian National Home where the "Taras Shevchenko" show took place. i was totally surprised to find that the building was still standing, and the engraved bust of Taras was still intact, over the door.

have any of the NY NOOLers been inside recently? do they still rent it out for shows? have other NOOLers, while on vacation in new york, made the trip down there? really, in the history of new order, how significant was this show?

i have lived in New York City My Entire Life and there has never been a gig there. i think i read that new order had to put the gig on themselves at taras because of a conflict between two clubs they were both booked at forcing them to find somewhere else to play the show i have never been inside

The original tour schedule for the 81 tour had two nights at the Peppermint Lounge, only one tape ever surfaced, which makes me think that the venue switch to the Ukrainian National Home was in place of one of those Peppermint Lounge dates.

I stumbled across it a few weeks ago, but didn't go inside. I was infinitely more thrilled by the street sign reading "Taras Shevchenko Place" than I was by CBGBs (and all its history/influence).....

My next visit to NYC, my paternal homeland and where I should have been born but my mom is a bitch and that is another story, I will definitely visit and photograph this place.

Anyways, I listened to the gig 3 times today to and fro my business trip. Almost a perfect performance except for Ceremony. Don't know why but Barney's vocals totally shitted out on this song. I detected some vocal failure in Procession but not a bad job for this time period.

One of my favorites. We are really lucky that they recorded and distributed this gig, especially in video form.

Tech point in Procession and Ceremony - mic stand problems, coupled with an electric shock or two. Depending on the mic in use, vocal drop-out more than likely. Would you get close to a mic that was shocking you every few seconds ?

During Procession he sounded tired, maybe some tech issues since the output seems low. For Ceremony he dropped his voice a few octaves which neither suits him or the song. Denial sounded much better and he was really getting into it toward the end. You can see him get shocked on the next song, Temptation, but that did not hinder him at all as he hit it with all force

Can't remember exactly, but if you head back towards Midtown from CBGBs (on whichever Avenue it is - 6th?), its on your right a couple of blocks up - the street is Taras Shevchenko Place and there's a bunch of Ukranian restaurants!

Basically, find CBGBs and you can't fail to find it....
