The beauty of hindsight part 2. Rediscovering forgotten masterpieces.

I've always loved Republic. And Chemical is one of my favourite ever, I just think the chorus is cool and like the powerful instrumentation. Only Times Change is a bit weak. What I like of the topic I connect to is the concept of stopping for a few minutes and thinking back to what we've been liking or not all these years. Recently I've been rediscovering songs that I've underrated at first and I've had big surprises. I suggest you all to do it. Like, in the last 15 years or so I don't think I have listened to Way Of Life more than a dozen of times. Not that I didn't like it, but there were other songs on Brotherhood keeping me excited, like the following Bizarre Love Triangle and I kind of forgot Way Of Life. Well, now I've rediscovered it and it's absolutely great. I adore the chorus... Who do you think you're talking to? When I look at you I know you're lying... Fabulous, I wonder why I forgot it all these years, it's almost like hearing a great New Order song for the first time... oh, and what about the bass in the interlude? Does it happen to you? Do you find yourself discovering a New Order song you though it wasn't so important is, in fact, so important? Let us know.

Oh yeah!! I've been doing that one a lot lately.

You are talking to someone who only just aquired Electronic, Electronic. What a great album. I can't believe I neglected that for all these years. On the weekend I tried to un-neglect Brotherhood only to discover that a couple of songs no longer play and I need a new copy. Bummer

WOW!! You seriously only just aquired Electronic?!!

Oh well, that happens. Nuthin to be ashamed of dude. Fortunately, Brotherhood is a cheapy these days so getting another copy won't dent you too badly, even in the land of Oz.

TT was the most bestest of em all me thinks!!!

Well, the good thing is now you can hear the Electronic debut as if it was a new album. I bought it when it was released and I had great expectations. I hadn't yet heard Getting Away With It at the time and there was this big yellow card in the shop screaming "THE SMITHS + NEW ORDER!!!". I actually thought I'd have heard someting like Johnny Marr adding guitar parts to Technique or Barney singing a Smiths song. It wasn't quite as expected but I liked it anyway. There were a couple of songs like Tighten Up which came near to what I was expecting. Raise The Pressure is maybe their best album, but Twisted Tenderness was the one when the union of the two musicians can be finally heard as it should have been, where you actually hear Bernard + Johnny and not just Barney with Johnny popping in the studio here and there for a beer.

Agreed, it's one of my favourite albums even now. I should dig it out some night and give it a spin.

It was the culmination of everything Barney and Johnny wanted to achieve in Electronic.

it was Don and Shug that convinced me to look into TT. I had written off Electronic after RTP but when i found the Japanese Import for TT for under 6bucks, i had to snatch it up. Turns out it's a fantastic album with some great tracks. A must for any fan. Listen to TT and then Get Ready consecutively. There's life in them bones!

Yeh I've had Raise the Pressure for a few years. I like a couple of songs off it. I guess I thought Electronic would be much the same. I did actually get the Getting Away with it single when it first came out. Yes, I have heard Twisted Tenderness. Sounds to me like a bad New Order album. You know full of B sides.

I've never heard RTP, I was sooo put off by its cover that I didn't buy it when I came across it. I was also put off by the Prozac mess. Is it worth buying after all ?

It depends. Do you like dance music? It's a very dancey album, full of Kraftwerk-like keyboards parts, courtesy of one certain Mr Karl Bartos, I'd assume.
