If JD/NO didn't exist?

So what would you be doing if they hadn't landed on this mortal coil? What would you spend your money on? Who would be your favourite band? I would be lost, completely. To think of how much I've spent on the band over the last 17 years. Not to mention all the time I've invested. Maybe I'd have done better at school? New Order saved me. True Faith came out at exactly the right time in my life; a new start. The Chameleons would be my band. But would they exist if JD hadn't been? Would U2 exist? Frightening thought...

I wouldn't be pondering this sort of subject if they hadn't.

Could've gotten a wicked obession about Lydia Lunch, like one of my mates from back then did, or the Dead, like lots of people round here do. ;)

Also more stuff from The Fall, Triffids and Mekons, probably, or more of the classic dub reggae or On-U stuff that I couldn't get here.

Still, the thought of no JD/NO isn't one that I particularly enjoyed.

Good point. Depeche Mode are one of NO's contempories and they developed their own unique style and sound. The only tune I can see that borrows a bit from NO is Enjoy The Silence. You know immediately it's them when they come on the radio. A sign of a great band. Pity Alan Wilder left.

I'd probably have become an accountant instead, I'd be considerably fatter and more depressed than I already am, or I might have become a Morrissey impersonator - mind you, New Order have saved me from such a fate.

And I agree with the remark about Alan Wilder: he is a great musician and I think DM have only lost with his departure.

Alan Wilder has done some great stuff under the name Recoil. There is a great album called Bloodline. This has reminded me to dig it out of the archives. Must buy some more stuff. He wrote some excellent stuff for the Mode, when Gore allowed it; The Landscape Is Changing, If You Want...
