Much prefer NO as a rule, and do like AIIWIW, but there surely isn't a comparison.
LWTUA, hands down.
Not sure how you paired these two tracks,but obviously Love Will Tear Us Apart is the far better one. I think you`ll find everyone else will agree too,(LWTUA is one of the BEST songs ANYONE has ever written).

I know what your saying,AIIWIW is similar but a lot slower.

AIIWIW is a nice NO song with good lyrics. LWTUA is a masterpiece.

Yeah, As It Is practically has the LWTUA bassline. As for which song is better, it's LWTUA hands down. I honestly can't see the possibility of As It Is being better.
aiiwiw is a great song by far, possibly the best song on brotherhood. lwtua will always beat it tho'.
I first heard As It Is (like most other new NO songs from 82-86) when I bought a bootleg at a record fair in Glasgow (it might have been Macclesfield '85?). I remember asking the seller about the 'new track' and he said it's virtually LWTUA slowed down. When I heard the tape I totally agreed with him and was very dissapointed with the version that eventually turned up on Brotherhood. Mind you, that was true for almost all the songs from that era I'd heard live and sounded great only to be crappy on that LP.

Im in the 14% who prefair aiiwiw. Never really liked lwtua. just never hit me really. i think aiiwiw just sounds much better. Its a personal thing really
Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of the finest songs anyone has ever committed to vinyl, it is an absolute masterpiece. Not my favourite JD song my any stretch of the imagination, but a masterpiece all the same. As It Is When It Was is an average song in the general scheme of New Order, but one of the better efforts from Brotherhood.

Very much so. Sounds like they were running out of ideas for stuff to stick on Brotherhood, and refused to compromise their "no singles on albums" stance by including SOTN instead of Way of Life. Can't believe that they actually liked it - maybe it was the perverse pleasure in seeing the audience mistake the first few bars ! Put it all in perspective when they dedicated it to Terry Mason at Wembley 87.

And the END of Way Of Life is absolutely the same as on "Under The Stars" from Monaco, listen to the bass!
Not really difficult to vote, it's got to be LWTUA, but... To me, the JD song is like Catherine Zeta-Jones dressed for the Oscar party sans Michael Douglas, whereas AIIWIW is like Scarlett Johansson fresh out of bed on a saturday morning, getting ready to do her laudry... They both have their charms, mind, it just depends on what you fancy, really. But LWTUA, like Catherine Zeta-Jones, is a song superior to most other songs, whereas I find AIIWIW just a cool NO song.
