This isn't really a New Order topic as such but it stems from a few of the posts here. I got thinking about all the other groups I used to like and how they compare to what's in the charts these days.

Who would you rather listen to? -

A1, Hearsay, Steps, N-Sync, Boyzone, Westlife, S-Club 7 (insert any other face-less, soul-less manufactured crap you wish)etc.

Or

New Order, Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, Josef K, Gang Of Four, The Pop Group, Cocteau Twins, Bunnymen, Killing Joke, Clock DVA, Section 25, Cabaret Voltaire etc.

When did it all go so wrong?!

I think it simply has to do with what is put on MTV and the radio. Record and music companies put out much of this stuff purely for money making purposes, radio stations want the money so they play the same crap over and over and young impressionable teens have nothing else to listen to. Unless they have older siblings or friends to introduce them to stuff like New Order/Joy Division then teens go for the crap of the day. I no longer listen to the radio because at least where I live none of the stations play what I like. It's all Limp Bizkit, Eminem and sound alike groups (the real Attack of the Clones).

Same over here in the UK (though not all new stuff is shite, Muse amuse me at the moment). I loved the bands mentioned (especially Cabaret Voltaire)earlier but I was young, had hair and was thin. Limp Wrists and all those 'real' bands are hopeless and should stop waving their limp limbs at us immediately. MTV killed music anyone?
