rare?

Ok, so I finally am getting some New Order albums on 12" and I was in this indie shop, which had some stuff... but I couldn't buy everything (I mean, I am on somewhat of a budget)

and I was wondering if I should go back and pick up this release: Peel Sessions '82 It was in b+w with text, like the sample pic

I did, however buy a Temptation 12" which says it's from '82 and is an import from Italy. But the picture isn't as dark as the photos in the discography are... is this a legitmate copy?

(edit) oh, and just if you are wondering, I bought along w/ Temptation : Power, Corruption & Lies and Technique

Sure the early Peel Sessions are good!!! But it sounds like a winning addition to any collection mate. The early original pressings are becoming harder and harder to find!!

It's not overly rare. It's also available on CD. Both of the Peel Sessions can also be found on one CD.

The 4 track 12" seem quite easy to get,on the other hand the vinyl album (with the blue sillouette sleeve) seems a bit harder to come by.

Are you refering to the more recent BBC Sessions LPs? Was there a NO release of that? I knew about the JD release...run of 1000, therefore I bought 2.

Its an 8 track vinyl album SFRLP110 released in the UK in 1990,it has 26/01/1981 session on side 1: Truth,Senses,ICB,Dreams Never End & on side 2 it has 01/06/1982 session: Turn The Heater On,We All Stand,Too Late,586. It has a Peter Saville designed sleeve in blue of Barneys sillouette standing in front of the mic. I dont think its rare but if it is someone let me know!

OK, the only one I have matching that description is from 2000, BBC, SFRSCD095.

I only have the JD vinyl from the same period.

Am I that fucked up????:(

Is the original 4 track CD Joy Division Peel session relatively 'rare'? Just asking cos I picked up a mint copy for £5 at a record fair the other week.

None of these records referred to in this thread are "rare" yet. You won't find them everywhere, admittedly, but there are still enough of them around if you know where to look. I'd be surprised if they are worth very much.

What about a vinyl copy of the R1 in concert? ive got the WindSong release version,on eil.com they want £250.00 for a BBC transcription vinyl lp of same gig (Glasto87),whats the difference? Is my rare or does the BBC one have the full set?

There is though a German CD with incorrect tracklisting on the sleeve (IIRC, one track was missing on the sleeve). That's be somewhat rare.

There may also be some out there that has a PSB (or DM) album instead of the live recording (or was that for some other compilation? I can't remember right now...)

The one listed on eil is a different item to the Windsongs one (which is dead common). BBC Transcription discs are made for radio broadcast only and in very limited quantities. I've never even seen one. I think that the track listing is quite different too - check TLV's Discography site.

I seem to remember that Record Collector magazine had a ban on selling transcription discs in the ads pages - perhaps this was due to the blow-jobs that came free with them....

There are very few of the transcription discs. Depends on how avid a collector you are? BTW there are 2 transcription discs available according to the discography!

True. The one on CD was reported to being on sale for 90USD in the mid-90's, apparently the seller revoked the offer... 90USD is very cheap for such an item, especially on CD. If you look in Goldmine you'll see them for sale, starting at 125USD for the cheapest ones on vinyl (at least a couple of years back - I'm not an avid Goldmine reader). The US equivalent CDs are cheaper, probably due to bigger editions...

Only major radiostations get these, think national broadcasters...

ok it's cool. So the live EP 12" isn't that rare, whatever. At least I got another vinyl to add to my collection.

But wtf is up w/ the light blue cover of Temptation? I mean is this a diff. version than the one in the discography? Is the picture just darker b/c it's an online pic?

...or did I just fork over cash for a bootleg?

The BBC Transcription Disc LP that I've seen includes 3 of the 4 tracks omitted from the Windsong release - Ceremony, Subculture and Sunrise.
