Petitions

Just a thought. It's that sort of day. Maybe we could petition the band to get Gillian to rejoin. Maybe we could petition them to play at Bozo's back garden in Nevada. Maybe we could petition them to re-release Brotherhood in the US without Shite of the Nation on the end. Maybe we could petition them to release something they didn't record, or to put Love Vigilantes as a hidden track on all the things they've already released.

Petitions, if overused, will be as boring and harmful as requesting that people vote for Passover, or constantly posting requests for bootleg trades, or proclaiming yourself as the FTP saviour of the world. Spotnick's one about the Peel sessions may well have worked in our favour - let's not overdo it with unfeasible petitions about eveything else.

Couldnt agree more Tim. I think all the harassment will just piss them off and we wont get anything!!

In the UK its known as "taking the piss" ;)

i think we should petition for all the new order etc vids to be released on dvd ,possibly as a box set including previously unseen footage. for those people who dont know, the quality of a film usually degrades after a few years (look at star wars, the original film was nearly lost to degradation, until mr lucas brought out the special editions!) surely the vids that ikon/factory made are probably either too far gone to save or ar as near as damn it ruined. they need converting to dvd and releasing NOW! regards

And you think another petition so soon is the answer ? May as well scream and scream until you make yourself sick. If the NOOL family get a reputation for petitioning everything they want it will get silly and will devalue the very real good that can be done from an occasional petition.

You could start a petition to end all these useless petitions we have!:evil4:

I think though steve you should have a petition first about the petition to end all useless petitions there are to be sure.

No, we should have a poll about that, whether to have a petition about petitions or not. That way we could all clog up the entire internet very easily ! Hey, why don't we petition Bill Gates for a bigger internet to clog up, while we're at it ?

How many signatures did the Peel thing get? I thought it was only maybe 500, or so? Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Sorry, but if it was around the 500 mark that doesn't sound like the sort of numbers required to get a release of anything anyways? No one's gonna put out a release cos they hope it might sell - ooh - 500 copies, surely?!

Exactly. Strange Fruit had probably planned to release it anyway, and the 500 signatures just convinced them that they would sell at least 500 copies. NOOL isn't big enough to influence that much (despite the relative Retro success), and a petition such as that one to release other videos just because we know a bit of it was filmed is just a waste of time and effort. I don't see anyone requesting TPK, Temptation and Age of Consent from the PFD set (though they were all played perfectly) or the rest of the BBC Hacienda set. Part of me thinks this petition bandwaggon is just because Mick The Gab went to the show in question, and wants to see if he is in the audience !

How about a petition to stop petitions about stopping petitions  :spin:

I'm dizzy, have to lie down :faint:

I don't claim the petition forced them to release it, but it has probably helped because they could show their bosses it was a good idea and had fan support.

But to be honest, it's a good coincidence to see that they actually have the exact tracklisting I suggested! Even the bloody video for Transmission, I would have never expected that one... :eek3:

But will a petition work with Warner? not sure... we already got a 5th disc with Retro without any petition, just Jonathan Scott exchanging gossips from here with Andy Robinson....

But true that we shouldn't start too many petitions, I do have plans to submit this one to any contact I can find at Warner Vision (remember, I have a contact with the PR company that helped to release 516 and Jools Holland's DVD, so I might have a good chance to contact Warner Vision, which are the one to contact for this)....

Will it work? I don't think it will happen, but I'd sure like to give it a try, I'd also be happy to ring mr LTM to see if they can release DVD as well, a New Order side-projects DVD would be seriously a great addition there (plus, they were all dumped by their labels, so would anyone mind really?)

As I said, I think they might release such a DVD collection before the new album comes out, I don't think the petition will change anything, but to show that some people are waiting for it, which might bring confidence in the project, if there is one... this might prevent them to pull the plug on such a project...

* Mick The Gab! Cool nick, I'll think about using it! Oh yes of course it's because I went to the show, otherwise I wouldn't be so sure it's their best gig ever. Anyway it's quite likely I'm in the audience, I was right in front of Barney... look, I thought about the problem with petition abuse, but I still think we have Finsbury Park and PFD which are OK but we haven't Apollo 98 yet! And it seems there's no fookin bootleg around either! Gimme a bootleg and I'll shut up about the official version... Believe me that gig was on another level... I think Reading 98 was great, but this was much, much better... I think any band would like to release their best gig ever and every fan would want to see it... True, there are too many petitions now, but after all we had submitted the one about the BBC sessions earlier, then we'll submit the one about the DVD with the promo videos, and after a while we can submit the Apollo 98 one. It's not like we submit them all on the same day, meanwhile people can sign, but we can put months between giving one and the other to the label...

Petitions may have influenced Strange Fruit but London & Warners are only influenced by SALES.

Buy the CD when it comes out in April to show them there's still a market for archive material from New Order.
