This is uncool

Having seen the mighty Kraftwerk on Thursday, I thought I'd spend my remaining time in the Capital by popping into HMV. Here I bought a book called 'The 500 Greatest singles since punk and disco (this is uncool)' by Garry Mulholland. I was attracted by the number of New Order sleeves reproduced in full colour. As it was cheap (£10 in the sale) I bought it and was astounded to discover that of the 500 singles, Mr. M had included no less than 15 on the Factory label.

According to my dodgy maths this means that 3% of all great singles released since Punk have been produced by Factory! I salute Mr. M. for his taste.

Yes I got this book out of my local library a year or so ago - a cracking read.

Inspired me to make a compilation CDR by picking only tracks featured in the book. The rule was that l could only pick one track for each year featured in the book. Picking only one track from years like 1979 was tough!

on a similar note, my friend spent 20 minutes ranting to me about this book called "the analog century." apparantly my friend got his nose outta joint when JD, NO, the Stone Roses, and even the Durutti Column got multiple page write ups, and the cure got a tiny little blurb. my response was "yeah, who the fuck cares? all those bands were better than the cure anyway"
