Joy Division the Musical?

I expect you're all beside yourselves with excitement at the news of the forthcoming Wham musical stage show, following on from the various Ben Elton scripted (using the word 'scripted' lightly) efforts for the likes of Rod Stewart. I was thinking maybe its about time the Salford crew got their own show, complete with show-tune versions of their hits, woven into a dramatic storyline...Perhaps it could be the next NOOL project after 'community'...

(If I'd thought of this yesterday I'd have posted it as a news item...)

Strangely enough the Observer music magazine had this same idea last Sunday. They basically said the current crop of musicals (Queen, Plod Stewart, etc) were shite and suggested either 'Unknown Pleasures: The Joy Division Musical' with a plotline full of miserable mancs and a musician who hangs himself. The writer then suggests a Smiths musical, identical to the Joy Division one - but with more flowers!

Mmmmh, I'm happy with 24 Hours Party People... a movie with songs is more appropriate than a proper musical... I mean would you wanna see the actors playing Barney or Tony singing in dialogues like those in Jesus Christ Superstar? Just imagine the scene when Rob jumps at Tony's throat for the damn expensive table at Factory... singing... "youuuu! fooookin cooooont! all that money for a fookin taaaable! are you craaaaazie?!"

Sounds almost as cheesy as making a statue for Ian now. :D

the musical is the lowest form of art. Still a JD/NO musical would be better than a bunch of unconnected rubbish like queen/abba/wham. i would imagine they invent some kind of crappy plotline and work the songs around it.
