The sadder it gets ....
How is your JD/NO collection sorted? I was watching High Fidelity recently and thought carefully about it. Mine is supposed to be in chronological order but that stupid arse Round & Round 3" CD spoils the whole thing. I also hate CDs without titles on their spines (TBTHOG CD single!). Records are a whole different concept and that JD flexi is a bar steward to keep good!
i have them by FAC number. ;)
first JD, then NO, then Electronic, then Revenge... (vinyl). and my CDs same thing but from top to bottom. crazy, ah? 
mine are laying about the floor, over in the corner, next to the entertainment center...
actually, I try to keep them in chronological order as well...but dammit, when you've been drinking, you forget what came first...or second...
General alphabetical order for everything, but I can't be bothered to go any further, such as release by year, etc.
Alphabetical by artist, and then each artist chronologically. Albums and singles kept separate. If you see what I mean...
mine are shoved in one of those big cd carrying cases, right between the DM and the Cure :p !
dont have many outside the albums, which are generally in an organic order, most recently / highest played(technique, electronic, get ready, substance, closer) , to least often played (movement, movement, movement) 
In order of importance.
First set is Joy Division / New Order / Electronic / The Mondays. Albums & EP's then 12"s + Bootlegs
Second Set is basically all Madchester stuff set out in same format as above....Roses, Charlatans, James, 808, Inspirals, Flowered Up, Railway Children, The Smiths, Morrissey, Billy Bragg.
Third and last set of records is 60's 70's 80's Dylan, Rod & The Faces, Beatles, Stones, Doors, Bowie, Springsteen, Simple Minds, U2, The Pogues etc...
Finally about 500 7" singles and many more Cassette singles hidden under the bed.
CD's are currently wherever I can put them
All over the bloody floor, in the "I've got is somewhere" order.
It's usually followed with the "I'll put something else on then" order.

this would drive my anal-retentive self crazy...
In the car,on the stairs,in the spare room,in the living room,they are everywhere. My other half says "stop buying Cds" at least twice a week.
