Is it possible to find The Happy One (the version found on Substance 1989 video)anywhere?.Can i download it from somewhere?.Cheers

...I got two versions:

1. NEW ORDER - 'The Happy One' from 'Palatine Lane' Compilation (uncutted !) 2:48 and
2. PETER HOOK - 'The Happy One (live)' taken from a NEW ORDER laserdisc 3:15...

Just before Audiogalaxy died I found the following, decribed as "The Happy One (Full Version)"

It's definitely not the "cut and paste" job done on Intermede Musicale parts 1-6. I tried to contact the person I downloaded it off to see where it came from, but they never replied.

If anyone out there knows where it came from, I'd be very interested to know...

I know 'The Happy One' appeared in the 'Making Out' soundtrack, so perhaps it's the version recorded for that.

One to feature on the 'Technique' 'Further Listening' bonus disc when it gets remastered and re-released! ;)

Hmm. First of all, I've learned never to trust the names of mp3s... Second, and please enlighten me if I'm incorrect, the only versions of The Happy One available are:

• Substance 1989 VHS/LD - I know that someone has spliced the pieces together...
• Palatine Lane - won't make the "complete" track
• Peter Hook playing live on some TV show (name slipped my memory)

Andy, are you saying that THO is available on a released soundtrack? or was it just played on the TV show Making Out? If so, does anyone have it?

well , i downloaded the track from Old Blues link and its great but if that s not the full version how long is the full version?.I have on video Hooky playing it live on Tony Wilson s old TV show Other Side Of Midnight .From about 1989.

The intriguing thing is that in the "full version":

a) There are no discernable "joins". It sounds like one continuous take.

b) The "full" version is longer than if you add the parts from Palatine Lane together.

What I haven't bothered to check yet is whether the parts used on the Substance video could have been used to make the "full" version (ie is there more music on there than on Palatine Lane). There was a Japanese laserdisc that could have been used for the source, although if this is how it came about, then someone is a very good mixer.

My final thought is that there is a CDR bootleg called "Various 7' Versions" out there that has a track called "The Happy One (from the Substance Video)" on it. But even if that is where it came from, we're probably no nearer knowing the exact origin.

Nah, it was just used during the soundtrack in a few scenes. The 'Palatine Lane' excerpts are very similar, if not exactly the same as the clips on the Substance video - if I recall, the sound quality of them on the CD is a bit duff too, making me wonder if they were copied straight from a copy of the video on to the album!

That 'Various Seven Inches', could be the one... A "leaking" by Hooky, perchance?

You don't have to be a good mixer to splice the pieces together. You need to have some sense of music to make sure that we can't hear the join(t)s ;)

I seem to remember a discussion on Ceremony from a long, long time ago (think mid-95s) that someone used the JP LD to get a good quality, full-length version of THO. But as I said, it was a long, long time ago...

If anyone have the pieces of THO from Substance 1989 in some computerized format, I can try to see if it's possible to create the "full version".

Finally, depeding on your definition of course, the Various 7" Version CDR is not a bootleg. It is part of a CDR-package made for in-house use at Warner (USA).

Even if it is a cut and paste job, then they've done a wonderful job - just what the doctor ordered!

Oh, and btw, there was no soundtrack album for Making Out, nor was it ever released on commercial video/DVD, but I suppose someone could have copied it from their own copy of the series, although I doubt somehow whether the quality would have been as good as this MP3, or even whether it would have been just over 2.5 minutes in length?

It's alright T., I was taking the piss!

A CD-R is a CD-R,if its burned to disc in-house thats still a copy. putting it in a plastic wallet with printed card is easy,most of these things will be made by some twat on a council estate in Preston,to sell on eBay to people like ourselves.
