Ok I finally I've listened to this one several times...

(big farting sound)

Ok kids, try and convince me that this one is not one of the worst, most leaden, most grinding, lamest, laziest, most heinous songs ever recorded by a regarded band... "the sun was beating down on me, I got thirsty for a beer and then I had go to sea... the sea was very rough, it made me sick, but I like that kind of stuff it beats ARITHMETIC"??? I mean a monkey could come up with something less embarrassing if you gave him the rhyming dictionary... my god this is unreal... someone tell me this is a joke... it's so far beyond appalling that area hasn't even been mapped yet many of these godawful lyrics dont even fit the cadence of this slow grind, leaving dead air that could easily be filled with another meaningless thought off the top of Bernards alcoholic fueled "brain"...

Absolutely unbelievable

Actually, this is one of my favorite out of the album...

I didn't listen too much to the lyrics, but the music and melody is pretty catchy..

I don't like it live though...

Compared to the rest of the CD I think Slow Jam is the weakest. To me it really sounds like something off the last Monaco album. As to the worst thing ever etc, it is not that bad!

At the first time I heard Slow Jam, I said to myself. "Oh boy, this sounds like...a song Oasis or some Rock bands should do.."

It is very rock song. New Order are rock band..Anyway, you know. But I wanted New Order remain Electronica field.

But I changed my mind after seeing Fuji Rock show. Slow Jam sounded more great at live! Slow Jam is good. and I don't mind Barney's lyrics.

There are too many words on Slow Jam. The music is good but it lacks lyrical flow. The line about grabbing a beer is both funny and frustrating.

I like Slow Jam a lot, and in the contrary, I think the way Barney speaks the lyrics adds to the song and makes it nice.

Ah well... it's always a matter of taste in the end.

Well, for some reason, I think of Slow Jam as a possible 4th single for Get Ready.. (after the 3 first tracks)

It's one of the song you enjoy at first listening.

But as they say, nobody share the same tastes, so we can't love all the songs.

After a lot of listening, I do love all the songs from Get Ready, and I do think this is truly a great New Order album.

Don't you think, Nicolas, that being french speaking is avdantage on this point of view ? I a m too and I know I don't pay as much attention to lyrics as I would to songs in my own language...

I have never taken much notice of New Order lyrics. I have heard songs like perfect kiss hundreds of times and could not even come close to repeating the words. To me New Order has always been about the bands attitude and of course their sound. Barney has never claimed to be a great writer of lyrics, so why expect any great change now.

This song is terrible on every level, lyrics, melody, everything. By far the worst thing on the album.

For some reason, I think you must like synthpop bands or techno music quite a lot, and never really liked, for instance, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis or the Rolling Stones. For me, Rock The Shack is a bit of a blend of all that.

And by the way, I'm not dissing you for not liking one of these bands -- I'm just saying that you have expectations regarding New Order and that the fact that the music doesn't meet your expectations doesn't make it bad in itself.

Actually, I used to really like the Rolling Stones, they were my biggest musical enthusiasm before New Order. Exile on Main Street was really good, and I remember listening to Salt of the Earth from Beggars Banquet over and over. About the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I thought about four or five songs from Californication were very good. I think maybe you misunderstood which song I was saying was terrible; I meant Slow Jam, not Rock the Shack. I actually quite like Rock the Shack. Since you brought up the Rolling Stones, does Run Wild remind you of Sweet Virginia? I haven't listened to that recently, however.

Hahaha, you are ABSOLUTELY right -- I am getting so used of reading people dissing Rock The Shack that when I read somebody criticizing another song of Get Ready, it turns into "Rock The Shack" in my head I guess.

Nonetheless, I like Slow Jam a lot personally.

And YES, I think you are absolutely right -- Run Wild DOES sound like if it came from the Rolling Stones.

I haven't heard any tracks off "Get Ready" yet except Crystal,so as yet cannot give my honest appraisel. But as previously mentioned,New Order are more than just lyrics and tunes.Attitude and credibility are equally important, and unlike some bands,New Order have a lot of it.In a world filled with piss poor boy/girl bands and over hyped tripe pretending to be rebellious,New Order will always stand out and be much revered for what they have achieved in their 20 plus years together. It appears that some people are a bit too quick to slate this album long before most people have had a chance to hear it,which is a shame. Let's be thankful that at least they're talking to each other, and that there is a new album and tour on the way.

Fucking right, the boys are back doing something so lets be thankful for that, however, Seb... Rock the Shack, Rock the Fucking Shack!!!! - I couldn't even sit through a 30 second preview, oh my good god somebody, please, reverse time... the track is an abomination. Who let this sneak onto the album.. it is utterly filthy.

Don't give me that bollocks about New Orders rock roots, this song is garbage, its not a rock song, it isn't meaty enough... it sounds like a fucking lobster being stood on.

Anyway, anyone seen Mojo magazine... full 10 page spread (or so) with loads of piccys and info. Lots of stuff on Steve Morrises tank collection. Interstingly enough, in the back of the mag. there is a review of the Get Ready album and the final words say...

'... New Order fans with fond memories might do well to look away' (Mojo mag.)

well I suppose it was always bound to get one bad review...for a more upbeat review from a slightly better source, read this weeks NME..8/10. Who actually buys MOJO anyway? the magazine is a f**king disgrace.

I agree, Seb. The NME review is about as close as you will get to an honest, objective opinion. I can't comment 'cos I ain't heard it yet.

Crystal sounds so typically New Order (Barney's tantalising vocals, Hooky's dark and dreamy bass, the ambience, the whole attitude), whilst feeling refreshingly new and now. In fact, I've just been and bought my 73rd copy in a bid to get it into the top 10.

Must go....forgot to set my system to repeat play...
