so there i am, gliding down interstate 5 in the band's van, on the way back from a show in san francisco, when the keyboard player wakes up. dead souls is playing on the stereo, and he yells "when did this come out!? i didn't think this nine inch nails song was popular enough for someone to want to cover! hey, so what is this?"

i just snickered for a bit, then atmosphere came on and the keyboard player yells "damn! someone needs to tell that guy that even though johnny cash is dead, he doesn't need to sing like the fucking corpse! this guy is horrible!"

i laughed so hard, i nearly fell out of the van... afterward at a reststop on the highway, to make sure that this guy wasn't just playing dumb, i asked him "you really didn't recognize those songs?" sure enough, the dumb fuck had no idea that dead souls was originally a JD tune, and he had obviously never heard JD before because he didn't even recognize "atmosphere." what a twat... what kind of keyboard player, in a marginally goth band, doesn't know what Joy Division sounds like?

Thanks for that depressing bit o' news Sean, think I need a drink now  ; no, I can't imagine how someone in that situation wouldn't know that, but then a lot of my time up here is spent trying to talk about such things to the ignoramuses around here. Pretty sure I'd do better as a preacher in the desert talking to scorpions. *sigh*

it's baffling... someone who listens to NIN, curve, dmode, the cure, etc... and he doesn't know that ian curtis is dead and that dead souls is a JD tune.
