'Heart And Soul' is being used as the backing music promoting UKTV Documentary's 'Hitler Week' this week - a series of ducumentaries about the Nazi leader.

I'm starting to wonder if the TV companies are doing it intentionally, or someone just chose a 'dark' piece of music to promote the shows. Thought we'd finally got away from the Nazi link.

And this in the week when Jean-Marie Le Penn is visiting the UK to promote the British National Party.

Who at London records (I presume it was them) granted the license for the track to be used?

Some learned intellectual probably said "I know what Joy Division means...we MUST have them!" Too bad, really.

Yeah, it's pretty sad.

What a bunch of wankers... Heart And Soul as a soundtrack to Nazis is not appropriate at all, it's just a romantic post punk song... they should have used They Walked In Line...

Which was about EAST German troops in Angola..... I'm curious how you came to that assessment (unless one of the band said so). What in the song indicates that?

It was in one of the early JD books, may have been An Ideal For Living. A journo quoted Ian as having an interest in Nazism, and that was his response, he'd read an article about troops in Angola in the Daily Mail. I'll try and find the reference and scan it.

*Yeah, I seem to remember that, it's just that it sounds more appropriate for the documentary than Heart And Soul...

I think people are just a little sensitive to this now. Sounds like a reasonable choice to me, all things considered. Like you say, chosen for being 'dark' rather than any right-wing links, surely?

I mean, you could chuck the Nazi thang at New Order too, but I can't imagine someone picking Mr Disco as background muzak for a show on Hitler.
