Drum Machine

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of drum machine was used on "Movement"? I assume it is the same as what the Cure used for "100 Years" & Carnage Visors" and Echo used on "Over The Wall" & "Turquise Days". Maybe i'm out of it, but I can't seem to find any info online on this.

I'm sure I have this info somewhere, but unfortunately its at home and I'm at work. No doubt someone will give you an answer before Monday.

I don't think the Cure used a drum machine for 100 years, although it would have been better than Lol Tolhurst.

Seems like the 2 big drum machines at the time would have beem either an Oberheim DMX or a Linn LM-1. I know they used a DMX quite a bit but can't remember anything on movement that sounded like one. I'll have to give movement anohter listen to check it out. Mostly live drumming on there from whta I can recall.

The DMX was bought in 1982, after Movement was produced. They did get a DX prior to that, but don't think it surfaced until early 82. Not sure that any of the different camera angles on Taras Shevchenko will help at all really on this one.

having sat through the cure triology dvd and being a drummer myself the cure tracks were played along with a seprate backing track as well ie two drum machines

They certainly did on the demo version! :p

Stephen Morris once said that the first drum machine that they bought was a Roland Dr Rhythm probably the 55 as it came out in '79. Theres plenty of Roland 808 on Confusion, Oberheim DMX on blue monday and others and then i gues from the mid '80s onwards they used drum modules and samples.

You can still find samples of those great high hats on some keyboards today.

(I looked at the latest Roland Fantom at the weekend and it is very drool worthy)

It is the DR-55. I found some samples online, and a virtual one. Now I just have to find a real one for cheap.

Great link! On the dial, #6 sounds like Truth, and #5 reminds me of Confusion. Anyone know of any other vintage virtual stuff to tool around with online?

My source tells me it indeed was a Roland Boss Dr 55.

It was defo an Oberheim DMX on BM, along with many other tunes. The DMX DOES sound a lot like a Linn tho in certain ways. To hear a Linn going for it, check out any Frankie Goes to Hollywood 12" mixes ( pref Relax or 2 Tribes), quite a machine.

I have read that NO used a Linn on BM, I'm trying to remember where I saw it. Given NO's reliance on the DMX, the person who wrote that may have been going by ear and got it wrong rather than some more authoritative means.
